Thinking of getting to Ottawa next month for 2 to 3 nights.
Any recommendations on a hotel for a family of 4?
I haven't been to Ottawa in a very long time, not sure what area is a good place to stay if we want to be close to "everything".
thanks!

Smack in the middle of Downtown Ottawa, there is the Chateau Laurier, The Westin and The Lord Elgin (I'm sure there are others, but those are THE big 3. Probably pricy. We've stayed at the Chateau Laurier and the Lord Elgin before, but those were gifts to us, so I have no clue as to price.
If you wanted less pricey places, you could stay further away from DownTown, but have the 417 as easy access to where ever you want to go.
We live in Kanata, which is the West End of Ottawa, Several nice hotels out here, and all are right off the Queensway (417). I hate downtown driving (too many one way streets for one thing), but do travel down there for museums, special events ect... It takes me about 25 minutes to drive to the downtown core outside of rush hour.
Hope that info helps you out.

I haven't stayed here before, so Im not sure about the location and how close it is to everything, but I recently heard that the Travelodge in Ottawa has a small themed waterpark including a big waterslide, a smaller wave pool and a small childrens wading pool with mushroom shaped sprinkler thing. Might be great for the kids, at no extra cost.

Les Suites- stayed there this past weekend. You can walk to most things, it is reasonably priced, has an indoor pool, and it has a full kitchen and living room. Great place to stay with families!:thumbsup2

If you want to be close to the action (i.e. downtown), think about Les Suites on Besserer St. It's walking distance to the market and Parliament Hill and right next door to the Rideau Centre. You can also book a suite with a fully equipped kitchen if you like and you can get a discount if you are a CAA member.

The other location being recommended above (with the water slide) is the Travelodge on Carling Ave.

There is always something going in Ottawa - check out http://www.ottawafestivals.ca/ to see what's happening while you're here.

Have a great trip!

If you are interested in the Travelodge then I would call to see if they have renovated recently. We have stayed there twice and found it to be in bad need of one...the carpets were filthy, beds were old etc.

We were there last week and really liked the residence inn. Full kitchen, huge bathroom and a good size living room with a pullout. Walking distance to everything, free hot breakfast every day, and I think it was recently renovated. I think our room was larger than normal, as it was a corner room. Enjoy your trip.

Might want to check the deals right now for the Westin. The heavenly beds are always my favourite and this hotel is connected to the Rideau Centre so in case of inclement weather, you can stay indoors and wander the malls or go for a bite to eat.

Chateau Laurier was nice for our family also. Our room looked over the Parliament buildings and the locks of the canal and we could watch the guards parade every morning out our window. I love Ottawa! It's a beautiful place in the summer.

Both of these hotels have indoor pools.

Checkout Travelzoo.ca.

We booked a room at the crowne plaza for $77 a night through this site. We're going up Aug 1st for 5 nights.

have fun

We stayed at the Best Western Victoria Park suites. If you are a CAA member they include indoor parking as well as give a discounted rate. I think we paid $102 per night on the weekend. They don't have a pool but they include breakfast and there is an office off the lobby with 2 computers for guest use. This hotel is a few blocks from the main downtown core but we never had trouble getting parking downtown. We had a basic room that was very nice and had a kitchenette. There were marble countertops and I would say that everything had been recently renovated it was very modern decor.
