Hi everyone. I need a little help here please. Our first DS is going to high school this September and I don't know how many pants/shirts/cardigans to buy?

Should I get 5 long sleeve and 5 short sleeve or it that too much? What has worked for your son/daughter?

My son is starting HS in September too. I'm buying him 6 golf shirts because for the past 2 years he will only wear t-shirts even in the winter. The only time he wears long shirts is for Christmas Photos. Where are you from in Canada? We live in Ontario

No boys, but my girls had a couple of short sleeved golf shirts and 1 long sleeved (which they rarely wear). One of my girls had the rugby shirt, but the second didn't touch it-even last year, after her sister went to university. We have the oxford shirt-2, I think-as well. That is what the younger daughter likes. Oh, and the dress blouse, too. Goes with the kilt, but since now the girls MUST wear tights-even in the heat of June and September-the kilt is not used.

So: 2 s/s golf shirts, 1 oxford, 1 l/s golf shirt, 2 pairs of pants per DD.

It all depends upon how often laundry is done in your household. I think my mom had 3 of each long and short sleeved dress shirts (white for my school). If I ran out of one type, I had to wear the other. No big deal to me. My cardigan tended to stay in my locker so I could avoid carrying it all the time. Only needed one. (Make sure he does not hang that cardigan on the hook in the locker or else there will be a permanent indentation behind the neck of it after a short time)
I also had 2 pairs of 'greys' or long sleeved grey pants. One to wear, one to go to the laundry and keep ready for when the pair I was wearing needed to be washed.
That was 28 years ago, but that's what I remember from my Catholic School Days. Since then the school uniform policy has gotten more lax :(. When my kids go to HS, it appears to be golf shirts being the norm at the school they will go to.

We buy 3 short sleeve, 2 long, 1 cardigan and 1 pullover. 3 pants, 1 kilt and 1 pair of shorts. It all depends on what your daughter likes to wear. I would start with one of each and see what she likes best, my daughter hated the blouse and the rugby shirts.

I do laundry a couple times per week, so DD only has 3 shirts, 1 pants and 1 kilt.

Watch what you buy because I found that once they get to school and see what the others are wearing - even though it is limited choice - they will only wear certain pieces.

My advise is to just purchase the minimum at first and you can always add to that. Most places you can order online and have it shipped to your house.

A few people have assumed she has a DD! She has stated DS. I can't see a boy wearing a kilt.

I didn't assume that at all, and maybe the others didn't either. We can only give the experience that we have, and, with the girls....it includes the kilt. Maybe it will help someone else? :confused3

I went to a high school which had a uniform and and only had the bare minimum when it came to the uniform. My family didn't have too much money and the uniform pieces were expensive. I had a long sleeve button up shirt, a short sleeve button up, 2 sweatshirts, 1 kilt and 1 pair of shorts. Between those 4 shirts I always had enough to wear (especially since you could wear the sweatshirts on their own w/o the white shirt under)

I appreciate all the replies. I think I will buy a little less than I originally planned. You guys are right. I could always buy more if needed.

For our DS starting high school in September, we bought 3 short sleeved golf shirts, 2 pants, 2 shorts, and a half-zip fleece pullover. He's still growing so I hate to invest too much as he is an only child and we don't have anyone to pass them down to (all of his friends to go the public high school).

I do laundry daily (I have laundry OCD :rotfl:) so we're okay with minimal pieces. He will change into street clothes immediately upon returning home anyway!!
