Our daughter is having her Bat Mitzvah in September. DW thought it would be cute if my dance with DD was to a Disney song so we are trying to think of one that would be appropriate. Any suggestions for a good Disney song for a father-daughter dance?

Not traditional, but some of the family related songs in Tarzan can be very nice. I actually picked "You'll Be in my Heart" as my wedding party's song.

I would pick "The Circle of Life" for two reasons.

1) Because you are a family of Disney lovers, I think it should be a grand, iconic ballad from a classic Disney film, and too many of the love songs are out of place when switched to a father/daughter relationship.

2) I'm not Jewish, but to the best of my knowledge this is a celebration of the next step in her life, and I think the words about 'more to do than can ever be done' and 'finding our way on the path unwinding' would be appropriate.

not sure if it would work but DH & I used A Whole New World from Aladian for our first dance at our wedding

I think this is a wonderful choice! Especially since it was designed to be a parent-song in the movie.

"Can You Feel the Love Tonight..." Elton John....is a great song also :)

best of luck...

I second Phil Collin's version of You'll be in my Heart. But, then again we are not quite "traditional" per se... When a child is born in my family the parent's pick a song for the child... my cousin's come to mind (they picked "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart) Well, my DH picked "All things just keep getting better", theme song from the show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and I picked, "There goes my life" by Kenny Chesney. Just food for thought. :rotfl:

Hi!

My son and I danced to "You'll Be In My Heart" from Tarzan at his Bar Mitzvah - and everytime I hear that song I think of that night! BTW, his theme was Disney World (each table was a ride) at his Bar Mitzvah -

A dream is a wish your heart makes from Cinderella or

Ever Ever After -- I love it! And, it wouldn't have to be a super slow dance which I love -- they can do something a little more fun :-)

Oh- also-
If I never knew you from Pocahontas.
Here's the lyrics-

If I never knew you
If I never felt this love
I would have no inkling of
How precious life can be

And if I never held you
I would never have a clue
How at last I'd find in you
The missing part of me

In this world so full of fear
Full of rage and lies
I can see the truth so clear
In your eyes
So dry your eyes

And I'm so grateful to you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Lost forever
If I never knew you

Pocahontas
If I never knew you
I'd be safe but half as real
Never knowing I could feel
A love so strong and true

I'm so grateful to you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Lost forever
If I never knew you

Smith
I thought our love would be so beautiful

Pocahontas
Somehow we made the whole world bright

Both
I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong
All they'd leave us where these whispers in the night
But still my heart is singing
We were right

Pocahontas
If I never knew you
If I never knew this love
I would have no inkling of
How precious life can be

Smith
There's no moment I regret
Since the moment that we met
If our time has gone too fast
I've lived at last...

Both
I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow we'd make the whole world bright

Pocahontas
I thought our love would be so beautiful
We'd turn the darkness into light

Both
And still my heart is singing
We were right

Smith
We were right
And If I never knew you
I'd have lived my whole life through

Pocahontas
Empty as the sky

Both
Never knowing why
Lost forever
If I never knew you

"You'll Be In My Heart" is the song I rocked DD to every night and it became our saying ... You be in my heart for always! Great song since it's about a parent/child relationship, okay not the typical one, but sweet none the less.

Wow, I had no idea I would strike a chord with so many Tarzan fans. I do love that song, and it's one of my fav movies. It definitely makes me smile every time I hear it. :thumbsup2

Great ideas everyone. My first thought was Tarzan also. I like Circle of Life, too. Have to take a look at the full lyrics for those.

Jim Brickman's The Disney Songbook CD - track #4, "Beautiful " sung by Wayne Brady

Lyrics:

From the moment I saw you
From the moment I looked into your eyes
There was something about you I knew, I knew
That you were once in a lifetime
A treasure near impossible to find
And I know how lucky I am to have you

"Cause I've seen rainbows that can take your breath away
The beauty of a setting sun that ends a perfect day
And when it comes to shooting stars, I have seen a few
But I've never seen anything as beautiful as you"

Holding you in my arms
No one else has fit so perfectly
I could dance forever with you, with you
And at the stroke of midnight
Please forgive me if I can't let go
Cause I never dreamed I'd find a Cinderella of my own

"Repeat Chorus"

:thumbsup2

I love "You'll be in My Heart" but the first thing that came to mind when I saw your post is a little more modern "Ready, Set, Don't Go" that Billy Ray Cyrus wrote for Miley is pretty.
