DH and I are thinking of taking a 5 day 4 night trip to Hawaii next year, but Im blown away by the price of the airline tickets... Of course we dont fly anywhere, and the fact that I may have talked DH into even considering Hawaii is amazing to me. Hes the "if we cant drive there, we're not going" kinda guy.

anyhoo, Anyone know where we can get airline tickets for Hawaii for a reasonable price. Thanks...

If you can get (relatively) cheap airfare to the West Coast (say, LA or San Francisco), then Alaska Airlines offers non-stop service to the Islands, and their sales are really really good. You may want to look into that. And, as a special bonus - if you fly into LA a day before your flight to Hawaii - you can squeeze some time at Disneyland into your itinerary...:rolleyes1

Jessicaerv....I never thought of that....May have to try that one out on my DH!!!

IMO, going to HI for only 5 days/4 nights is a waste. It takes almost a day each way just to get there. I would go to a carribean island or an island somewhere on the east coast if you can only do 5/4. Or, extend it to atleast 10 days if you are really set on Hawai'i.

We cant go for longer..we cant be away from the kids that long....but believe me, Id do it if I could. I thought about the carribean.....May be something for us to do...

That is way too far for a 4 night trip. I've done it from the east coast. You spend day 1 getting there, arrive in the evening. You have jet lag because of the time difference. Then if you really only have 4 nights you fly home in the afternoon of the 4th day because you don't arrive back to the east coat until the following day.

Though I've never been to Hawaii, I tend to agree that it seems too far for such a short trip. We are planning a trip for next year and will most likely do at least 10 full days on the Big Island plus 1 full day travel each way and then a day at the end to recover. Since we are taking the kids we may need several days at the end to recover. :lmao:

It took my kids a full week to recover after a three week trip. We are on the East Coast and the kids were wide awake at 2 a.m. for a couple of nights. Then 1, then midnight. Don't do this trip when they have to come home and go straight back to school.

We went for 8 days from Atlanta. I would not plan for any less than that and preferably 10 days. You will spend 2 days traveling and the time difference is 5-6 hours depending on time of year. The airfare is so expensive from the East Coast it would be a waste of money to go for such a short time. Wait until your kids are older and you can either take them or leave them for a week. We have been to many islands and to Mexico and those are nice for a 5 day trip. You can be there in 2-3 hours flying time.

As someone who travels Florida to Hawaii somewhat often, there is no way I'd come here for 4 nights. The flights are just too long, you lose a day practically on the flight home. No, really. 10 hours of flying. It's faster to Europe I think.

Go to FL or the Carribean, or Mexico instead, and save Hawaii for a much longer stay. :) Hawaii is worth it!

I went to Hawaii for 2 weeks for my honeymoon because the airfare is so expensive! 4 nights just doesn't seem worth it. From Boston to Honolulu, it is 12 hrs flying plus a layover in the west (LA or SLC). Doesn't sound bad, but the jet lag is really bad when you get home. We took a red eye from LA to Boston, pretty much didn't sleep, got in at 7am and stayed up till 8 that night to get back in our routine. It was rough.

If you only have 4-5 days, personally I would go to the Carribean. It is a quick flight from WV and definitely more affordable. But that is just my opinion. :)

I live in CA and have done Hawaii and the caribbean multiple times for a long weekend. IT can be done. I would prefer longer but that wasn't an option with DH's work schedule. I am honestly not a huge hawaii fan though the family cruiise we took had some great memories and nope I am not much of a cruiser either. But I by far prefer to fly to Turks and Caicos and chill there. The beaches blow hawaiis away. The time difference and flight times are similar from where I am the only diffeence is I have to connect in Miami to get to Turks and Caicos. And no Turks and caiosi is not an idland near turkey. I guess it just depends what you want out of a vacation. Hawaii to me is more active sight seeing type stuff with ok beaches. Turks is all about the beach and water sports though there is other stuff and islands to visit. Let me know if I can help more.

It might can be done but why would you want to spend all that money on airfare and only be there for about 2 whole days, if you're talking about a long weekend. You'll probably spend that much time recovering from jet lag. My parents just flew out yesterday morning from Ga and got there in the evening. They'll be there for about 2 weeks, which seems like a good amount of time to fly that far and spend that amount of money.

Sure, but there's a big difference between a 5 hour time difference and- what's California to Hawaii, 2?

Ok, ya'll just talked me right out of hawaii this time around...LOL.....I get what ya'll are saying though. I though airfare round trip was a bit much. maybe when my kids are older me and hubby can go there.

10 days on the Big Island? That's a lot of time for that island. 2 days is plenty, 3 at most.

I've currently got 15 booked for the Big Island alone. What did you see, or what did you miss if you only stayed for 2 or 3 days??

The air is really expensive from the east coast, but it is a really far trip. The Hawaiian Islands are the most remote island chain in the world. It is actually fairly cheap to stay there, once you land. It is a place where getting there is the hard part, for sure!

We've spent probably close to 3 weeks on the Big Island, split between Kailua-Kona and VNP. (3 different trips) There is so much to do there. So much natural beauty. We still haven't seen it all!

Wow, I didn't think there was that much to do there. lol

We did Volcano National park, saw the lava flow into the ocean at night. Drove around the entire island (best climate changes EVER), went to the black sand beach, went to the southernmost point in the US and watched the Manta Rays from our hotel.

Next trip we are going Ohau again, Maui and Kauai.
