Hi All ~ I'm in the process of figuring the budget and timing for a family trip to Europe. My kids are 7 and 13 and don't always get along. When would be a good time to take them to Europe?

We are considering the Canadian Maritimes this year, maybe WDW next year and then MAYBE UK? Sandra

My kids were 9, 11, and 13 when we took them to Norway in 2005.

Two weeks ago we went to London with my now 15 and 11 year old. The 13 year old went to Spain and Portugal with her school.

Both trips involved alot of hiking and walking which everyone managed quite well.

A consideration would be to include everyone in the planning. Everyone identified something that they wanted to see or do.

As I'm a Brit, I've been taking my 2DS(8 & 5) since they were knee-high to a grasshopper, to England and Spain, our last trip there was last year. Both love being in the UK, and particularly London, mostly because of all the different transportation. Its actually me who was a little more nervous and felt the need to keep them on a much tighter than normal leash. I'm not saying its not safe, most parts are but its crowded and you can lose a little one easily.

Anyway, you're past that age group so I would say "when you can afford it" :) is a good time to go, unless you want to avoid the time when they just have to go to whatever the hottest nightclub is.

We spent 3 weeks in the UK (travelled all over) the summer after I finished grade 6 and my sister had just finished grade 1. So we were like 7 and 11 maybe. We still talk about the fun times we had. It was an absolute ball. I would say go for it anytime!
