OT - gift from tween boy to tween girl ?

My son has been invited to a birthday party for a girl. He wanted to make her a necklace because my mom used to make jewelry and he's made stuff in the past. He made her a necklace that may not be considered the most fashionable. (I think it's cute but not sure how an 11yo girl will feel). My mom also likes to make "crowns" that she decorates with fake flowers and tulle down the back. She gave him one to give to her. Are these gifts okay? I just don't want him to get teased since he is excited to have made her something. I think a younger girl would like the crown but I'm not sure about this age (11). Should I throw in a gift card of some kind? If so, what? Just not sure what he should give ??

I think that I would give a gift card as well. At 11 not all kids realize the value in homemade gifts. It depends on the girl whether or not she is too old for the crown.

I also have an 11 year old boy and I would have the same concerns about teasing. But since he made the necklace on his own I think he would be hurt not giving it to her.

Those gifts sound wonderful, but I agree that I would throw in a gift card as well. Maybe one to Bath and Body Works? The girls that age seem to love that.

And might I add, how nice it is to hear that your son wanted to make his friend a gift. That was very thoughtful of him.

I'd go with the necklace and a gift card. The only scenario I can see with the crown is if it was given to one good friend by the other, and the friend made it, and it symbolized something.

Is this a close friend, or a classmate?

What grade? I teach 6th grade.

If you say it is a birthday crown, she might wear it right away. Don't know about the necklace.

Gift card yes: Target, Starbucks, ITunes, Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds-someplace that they can get a little something. If you are worried about a gift card with food: (some people have dietary restrictions) - or even a craft store

If those rainbow looms and bands things are still popular near your area, a gift card to AC Moore, Michaels might be good
