Just came back. As of June 1st, 2007, no fireworks of any kind-sparklers, smoke worms-nothing is allowed. Si, if you're one of those families who entertained my family last year with your beach pyrotechnics....don't stop in South Carolina and stock up for your trip this year. They are determined to enforce this. They almost lost a whole subdivision over the winter to errant bottle rockets.

Good for them!! Fireworks should be left to professionals, no matter where you are. Too many people/kids lose fingers/hands/houses due to people's stupidity when it comes to fireworks. And I still don't understand the logic of giving a sparkler to a young child to hold - does anyone realize how hot a sparkler is and what kind of burns it can cause?

I'll get off my soapbox now.......

I'm with you. I love to watch professional fireworks, but wish all personal use of fireworks was banned. I hate spending multiple nights around Christmas, NYE, & July 4th awake 1/2 the night to make sure the dummies in our neighborhood don't set our house on fire. They've already started their 4th of July fireworks madness. :headache:

& I'm with you!

Saturday night @ 11:30pm the foolish neighbors about 2-3 houses down were doing fireworks right over the houses! I was PO'ed! all of the houses on my side of the street sit around a little lake. Why in the world were they pointing them to shoot off between the houses? These weren't little bitty fireworks either, I was surprised how big they were however, they sure didnt shoot far up in the air, I'm very surprised the houses werent hit with some of the flying debris. Our homeowners association does not allow fireworks but these people sure didnt care or care about the safety of their neighbors!

The fireworks laws are already in effect in our area (VA Beach/Chesapeake), and hand sparklers are illegal too.

We had some fireworks left from a SC stop on our way back from Disney. We set them off 4th of July last year and the cops IMMEDIATELY came down the street and my daughter had sparklers. He confiscated everything including the sparklers. We made it a point to ask specifically about sparklers and he said - ILLEGAL. :sad2:

DD8 was devastated. It was funny though - she told EVERYONE that the cops came and BUSTED us. Don't you know my mom was F-R-E-A-K-I-N-G out when she said those words... LOL!!! :rotfl:

Are you sure they are talking about the hand held sparklers as well?

The letter in our renter's packet specified 'children's hand held sparklers.'
I've always been scared of these because I burned my hands and feet a few times as a child on them. When we do use them, we have a big bucket of water to put them in when they are burning out and we have strict supervision by grownups. I still like to swirl them around and write my name in the dark. :upsidedow We didn't see any big signs advertising "fireworks" on our way in this year. We come thru VA/NC and usually as soon as we cross the NC border there are places to buy them. this year-nada. It's SC where you can get the big ones anyway.
