OT - DVD Conversion?

Hi All,
My old camera did video in .avi format and I could easily convert it to a DVD using software I purchased online. Now my newer camera does it in a .mov file (quicktime) and the same software will not convert that into DVD!
2 questions:
1. any recommended software for converting .mov to .avi so I can burn the DVD?
2. what's good software to convert mov directly to DVD?
I'm in a bit of a hurry for it, but no time to research it. The subject of the video is leaving for a new position out of town and I'd like to give him a DVD of his memories before he leaves.

I'm assuming you're on a PC - The "go to" product for video format conversion is "Magic Video Converter" (http://www.magic-video-software.com/magic_video_converter/features.html). It's $20 and will convert anything to anything including to DVD format (VIDEO_TS).

If you have a Mac, iMovie and iDVD read .mov files natively.

Snobby TV editor talking: Yikes - PC's and videos are not a good match.

But nice thought of you to do this for someone! Whenever I have issues with files formats with my pc software (AVID), I've used Sorenson.
