OT - Does the new Family day stat holiday in Ontario begin Monday Feb 18, 2008?

We've had Family Day in Alberta since the 90's; it's a great mid-winter break (but the prices for travel destinations here are at peak for that weekend now). Enjoy!

We went to WDW last year during the Feb break and got a great deal on flights! This Feb break we are going to Douglas Fir Resorts again for the weekend as dh and I are headed back down to WDW in April. I have always loved that mid winter break! Honestly I thought everybody got that time off.....

Nope, Family Day has only been in Alberta until now. Other provinces might have some different stat holidays but I don't think any of them are in February.

The last time we stayed at the Douglas Fir (last Oct.) our unit smelled incredibly funky ; like it had been closed up for years. We're pretty Banffed-out now, sure would like to be going south sometime soon...DH and I would LOVE to sneak away alone for a Mexican Riviera cruise (some really good prices between now and Easter), but nothing planned as of this moment.

I wonder with the new Family Day will we lose one of our float holidays. We got the float days because Quebec had more stat holidays than us. The float days evened the number of days we had off in the year.

I wonder if the kids are in school one more day because of this holiday.......
they have to have so many days in school, right. Anyone know???

Most likely, yes
This is also the reason we had 2 float days in my company.
It should go down to one now....

To the original poster... keep in mind that Family Day is the same date as American President's Day - a national holiday for them. That day/weekend/week tends to be the absolute busiest time at WDW... busier than March break.
