Is anyone a member of this? Or have been in the past? I just got a package in the mail about it and it seems like a good deal. 4 movies for $1.99 and then one for $14.95, one for $9.95. Then you have to buy I think 3 more movies within 2 years? Is this worth it? It it more a pain than anything? I'm a sucker for Disney movies so I'm very tempted to sign up...

I am, I've fulfilled my obligations and now just get offers. It's really easy to decline, just pop onto the website and accept or decline your offer. Returns are easy, just mark the package refused and it gets returned and credited to your account. I had no problems fulfilling my obligations, we'd had a house fire and all our movies were ruined so this helped me get them back. :)

The amount you pay for the movies is ridiculous. But for the great deal you get up front, it was worth it to me!

I didn't care for it.The initial deal is enticing but the price for the movies after it is ridiculous. If you forget to decline the movie of the month , it is a PIA to get it taken care of

One side!

If you forget to decline the movie of the month , it is a PIA to get it taken care of

The other side.

:rotfl:

I'll be in the middle with returns. 1., I have bad luck with companies making exceptions for me, so when I read that the actual rule for returning accidentally not-declined movies was that you would get the refund for the movie but not for the shipping either way...I just kept Bolt (even though I would NEVER have ordered the 1 disc version). 2., I once realized I'd missed canceling Beverly Hills Chihuahua by less than a day, called up, and they canceled it for me without a problem. never even hit my card.

So that's the middle ground about that.

If you have a list of movies you want to get, and you can get them asap, preferably in as few orders as possible...then it's a GREAT deal. Otherwise, the time goes by and your mind does tricks on you as you see cheapie movies at costco, etc....AND you do increase your shipping costs as you order each movie separately.

Even though I still did well in the club (especially since I initially went through a rewards site and got credit back), it took us almost the 2 years and it was torture to order that last movie. I finally had to order Lilo and Stitch in a collectible tin container (they now have that for Chicken Little), bcause I couldn't find that anywhere...to me that made it exclusive, and DS wanted the movie anyway, so I finally ordered and finished my obligation.

If you are going ot order more than one at once, you have to make sure that you're paying full price for each movie. You can take whatever offer is, er, offered off, to make sure you're paying full price; if you take a "buy one get one 40% off", that discounted one won't count towards your obligation...

Once you meet the obligation you become a VIP, and if you remember to put the pin in your cart, you can get a free pin each time you order...there are sales, there are really nice offers... I just got Nightmare Before Christmas...the movie was 17.99 (2 disc special edition with digital file, though the digital file officially has expired BUT they will supposedly unexpire it once they return my email) plus shipping, and I got a Pete's Dragon pin too. 20 something bucks, no tax (WA has salestax of over 9%), and no I didn' thave it as quickly as if I went to Costco, but if I went to Costco I wouldn't have a pin to give hubby. :)

I'm generally excellent about paying bills on time, never missing payments, etc. However, I hit a really busy time at work and one of my kids was having problems with school and I suddenly became the "proud" owner of a second copy of both Cars and Pirates of the Carribean and a very unexpected and unwanted copy of some football movie with Mark Wahlberg (I think.) I was too busy to bother returning them so I sucked it up and paid for the unwanted movies before I quit the club. At least Cars and Pirates made good gifts. Otherwise, it was certainly fun receiving and watching that initial package of wanted movies! If you can always remember to deny the monthly selection and fulfill your obligation in bulk, you can definitely get your money's worth.

Thanks for the replies, all!

Yeah, I did the math and it does seem like a good deal. In the end you get each movie for about $13...which is a great price for Disney movies that are usually in the high $2o range. Especially for the newer ones like FInding Nemo which I've been wanting to buy.

That was another thing I was wondering. Is there no tax on the purchases? In Ontario we have 13% sales tax so that would be a huge savings, too.

There are 6 that I would buy right now (some are a stretch but I want to take advantage of the bonuses). After that I'm really only going to be waiting until Beauty and the Beast comes out of the vault next year. I will be a long wait... There's always Christmas gifts and such...it's just that damn shipping. Bumps the price of the movies up significantly.

In any case, thanks for the opinions!

I am in the Disney movie club and I like it. Our initial shipment of movies helped up start our movie library. Whenever the kids want another movie I get it from there. I am one title away from fulfilling my commitment. I use the website to decline the featured movie. It is very easy. I just remember to do it whenever I get the little envelope from them in the mail. That night I go online and decline. It has worked for us.

MaeB...I would make absolutely sure that you can join, just in case.

But about the tax, generally in the States they charge tax if they have a physical presence in the state. So, for instance, when I order from amazon.com, I get charged WA sales tax, b/c obviously Amazon has a presence in the state (and in my husband's paychecks!). Someone living in Idaho is NOT charged tax on amazon purchases, b/c there aren't any FCs, etc, of amazon's there. So I assume that the movie club is not in WA, which is why I'm not charged tax.

But I'm not sure that you wouldn't have extra fees, and maybe higher shipping costs, being in Ontario (and I'm assuming not Ontario in California, LOL).

We have enjoyed our subscription to the CLUB! I have one movie left to fufill my commitment. I do just like a PP; when I receive the envelope in the mail that day I normally decline. I plan to finish my commimtment with the Snow White release...I think it is like everything else...what is great for some; is not for others :confused3 --but it really helped us to get our Disney update in the DVD areana...I have ALL the movies on VHS...I guess blu-ray will be the next way to start ordering!

BTW: I do not pay taxes on my order; but, I do pay shipping--FYI: if you order movies from the disneyshopping.com site you DO NOT PAY SHIPPING, but, I do pay taxes :confused3

Good luck with your decision!
:wave2:
