Hi all!!

I am really unfamiliar with this series, but the previews to the movie look not too bad. I know none of you have seen the movie, but based on the books, can any of you advise if this would be an appropriate movie for an "almost" 6 year old girl?

We promised DD a movie this weekend (which is a big treat) and this appears to be our only option. So, I thought I would ask around here for some feedback.

Thank you!!

Amy

My students (3rd, 4th, 5th) absolutely love the books. It's one of the series that I use every year to get my reluctant readers kick started.

As far as the content and a 6 year old- it depends on you. It would have been fine for my DD13 at that age as we're pretty laid back. The books have a lot of the type humor that preteen (8-12 yr old) boys find funny although they are just as popular with my female students. The character in the books has just started middle school. If you're fine with your DD watching Hannah Montana and other preteen shows then you'll likely be fine. If not, maybe not.

If you've seen the trailers and the "butt" joke I keep hearing doesn't bother you then the rest won't likely either.

My 7 year old is reading them now. Right now, actually, sitting in the chair next to me. He says they are hilarious. Lots of fart jokes, right up his alley :thumbsup2

My first graders just started on them, passed down from ds11 and dd9 - everyone seems to love them!

My 11yr old loves them and has been talking about wanting to see the movie for weeks now.

DD8 read the book in class at a Christian school, so I'm thinking it may not be too bad :)

Thank you everyone!!

I like the comparison the Hannah Montana - that puts it into perspective (I allow DD to watch HM, but my sister does not, so that makes sense to me).

I appreaciate all of the feedback and this movie is now on the agenda for Friday!!

Thank you :)

I will take my 7 and 10 yr old boys to see it since my 10 yr old LOVES the books. I actually read the books myself and laughed out loud several times during each. The author really "gets" that age boys (and some moms like me, apparantly).

The only risk is that who knows if the movies will really follow closely the books. So often movies scarcely resemble the books they are named after. But I figure it will be OK. It depends on how laid back or not you are.

Your daughter will probably like it though. Kids don't seem to be that discriminating when it comes to movies like this. Parents, are a different story. I myself am hoping the fart jokes are kept to a minimum for my own sake (don't remember many in the books if any, but you know if it is a kid movie they seem to revolve around bathroom humor for whatever reason) .

My boys have been reading them for a couple years, they were about 7 and 10 when they started.
