Hi all ~ FINALLY, DH got laid off after 28 years with company. We have been expecting this for some time now.

I'm going to let it sink in and then plan our summer fun! S

I hope that you two turn to each other for support during this difficult time.
Thought and prayers are with you.

Hi ~ Happy? Yeppers!

He did make a lot of money, that I'll miss.

But he wasn't happy.

It is what it is and we'll go with the flow.

Blessings, Sandra

Sorry to hear about that. especially in the times we live now it seems like we're in such an economical depression. everyone is feeling the stress. so our thoughts are with you. and i'm sure he will find somethign else!! our thoughts are with you.....
and hey, if he didn't enjoy his job, then this may very well be the best thing for his health!

I had to retire after 35 years with my company or else I would have lost all my health benefit package. It was the only place that I had ever worked. I am going to have a fantastic summer at the lake and figure out what to do with my spare time in the fall since my wife is not elegible to retire for quite a while yet. The manufacturing sector in this province is toast and I feel that we are only scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to hard times for some people.

Hi ~ DH will be 49 this weekend. I asked him if he would consider early retirement. Are you close to retirement age? Blessings, S

I just turned 53 years of age so I am not ready to retire, nor am I ready to work full time. We are quite lucky as both our children finished university 2 years ago and the company I worked for has a fairly decent pension plan. I am sure glad that I bought DVC 2 years ago. It would be tough trying to get my wife to do it now.

I guess I am happy he got out of an unhappy situation... and hopefully he got a GREAT severence package though!!! Happy planning!

SandraC I know what your going through. I have 21 years at the same place. We have been waiting for the door to close for a few years now. It will be a sad day when it does close but in a way a sigh of releif to. Management has been widdling away at the departments and eveyone is overworked for what they have been used to. Stress levels is high and moral is the lowest i've seen. They also havent be purchasing any parts fo fix the machinery, so they are running into the ground slowly. In the past year we have shut almost half the plant down and mothballed the production units invloved. This coming friday we have 5 more lines going down for good. So most of our days are either bad to worse. I go in every day expecting to be told this is it. Plant closure. On the bright side I have my camping trips and forums here to help ease the pain a bit. Good luck with your new found time. I hope your husband doesn't have to find a new job and you both can enjoy life for that is what it's all about.

Last year, May 31st, after 8 years of service I was laid off from "Big Blue".

Best thing that ever happened to me. I got a fair package, which paid off some of our debt and also paid for our Disney trip last year.

I hated my job, hated the lack of moral, hated my pathetic paycheque. Within 2 weeks I got a new job and almost doubled by salary. I am so much happier now. At first you go through some initial shock (like you mentioned) but the lack of stress is amazing. I haven't looked back once.

Good luck to your hubby, I hope he has the same luck I did - ;)

I've been with several employers in my career and every time I've left the grass has always been greener.

Hi ~ The thing I don't like right now is not knowing what's up.

IF DH has all summer off but goes back in September, we could travel and spend money we are accustom to spending....but we don't know IF he'll be called back to work.

IF DH got a package and the year off, we could make approproiate plans....but we don't know.

IF DH wasn't going to be called back, we could take a couple weeks for vacation and then he could look for a new job....but we don't know about that either.

The only thing I know for certain is that God has a plan for DH that is exciting a new and I can't wait to see how this turns out.

So much of me wants to take off to Florida for the entire summer, but if DH gets called back and we can't make it home in time....would he get fired?

So, we decided to stick around Ontario, enjoy our trailer, Wonderland and Marineland season's passes, visit my Mum and sister in Cornwall, and veg until we have more information.

Blessings, Sandra
