OT Detroit hotel close to Joe Louis Arena

We are going to Detroit for a Red Wind playoff game and are looking for a hotel for the night. Where is the best and safest place to stay in the area?

I live just outside of Windsor and go to many concerts,events, etc. at Joe Louis. If you really want to feel safe, stay downtown Windsor, there is a tunnel bus that will bring you right to Joe Louis for around $3 each way. It is so easy - then you don't have to pay for parking or anything. There are lots of busses waiting for after the game to bring you back as well.

I agree with rella's fan we grew up in Windsor, i would not stay in the area of the arena, much safer and cheaper to stay in Windsor
