OT: Child Care job in NJ

I have just graduated High School and I am thinking about going to school for teaching. I figure a good way to figure out if I want to do this is to work with kids. I am considering some day cares but would also like to do a nanny/babysitting job instead. Does anyone know how you come about these jobs? Is the best way to look in the classified ad's in a newspaper? I tried doing a search online but didn't come up with anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One thing you might try is a Mothers a/o Parents Day Out. The hours are usually 9-2ish & its usually only a few days/week. They're usually run by churches so I'd look at church websites in your area.

If you are thinking of babysitting to start out I would take a babysitting class at your local hospital- it is a basic what to do in a crisis kind of class but it is something that parents will be happy you took. Then I would put out flyers in your neighborhood for nightly babysitting. But for full on nanny care I think you could just look up jobs in the NYtimes(I think you are from NJ?) There will be tons of people looking for nannies. You can go online to their website and look up under classified and jobs= I saw 9 listings for nannies in NY. Good luck and you can also contact your local daycare centers and see if they need help- most would let you work as an aide(the pay isn't great but you will learn quickly if you want to work with a room full of kids!)

Hi! What part of NJ are you in? I live in Hunterdon County and we have an organization called the Work Family Program that has before and after care for school age children. Looking for a place like this may be good or your school district. I am not sure of the requirements but it is worth giving it a shot...good luck!
