We will be going to DL soon but want to stop at a beach near Pt Mugu or some place in the basic area. Anyone know much about the area and or a nice beach to stop at?
Probably the best beach closest to Pt. Mugu is Leo Carrillo, down Coast Highway a few miles. Sycamore isn't too far south of Mugu, but I wouldn't really consider it a beach for swimming. North of Mugu is Hueneme Beach, but I'd take Leo Carrillo over all.
I live about 5 minutes from Point Mugu and Hueneme beach is just down the 1 fwy and if you go a little farther is Oxnard Beach. If you want that area, I would drive the extra 5 minutes and go to one of the Oxnard beaches over Hueneme beach.

Here's a link of the beach from the air. (note going left - nw - & you're heading toward Oxnard.....right - se & you're heading toward Leo Carrillo / Malibu.
We will be coming from Universal City and figured we could stop at Pt Mugu to get tickets for DL (sounds good in conversation but not sure it is the best way to go) and then we figured we should stop at a beach while in the area. Soooooo that is why we are looking for a beach, but we are open to anything between Universal City and DL.
Pt. Magu is not in between Universal Studios and DL. Actually, no beach really is because both US and DL are to the east.
Perhaps just drive out to Malibu and north to look for a public beach. We used to go to one a lot in Northern Malibu (maybe Sycamore it's name strikes a bell) when we lived in LA.
Otherwise, maybe just go to one of the beach cities (i.e. Santa Monica, Venice, Newport) that is closer to where you are going to be. I used to like Hermosa Beach and found that to be a little quieter than some of its neighbors.
The PP is right though. I'm about an hour and a half from DL without traffic. And Point Mugu is 5 to 10 minutes closer to DL. So it would be out of your way to come this way.. Unless Point Mugu is ON your way to DL, then that's a different story!
We are attending a conference in Universal City and this is why we are going to DL in the summer.
With a 7 hour drive we can't get so close at not stop in our second home.
But we want to visit the beach as well. We know they are "out of the way" as far as going west more and not being inland, but what we don't want to do is drive to San Deigo or back up north just to visit a good beach.
