Experts help! My parents are flying home to Germany on US airways 6/4-6/27. A week after purchasing the tickets US Airways announces they are on shakey ground and possibly declaring bankruptcy. IF they go bankrupt my parents should be able to dispute the charges for the tickets on their CC, right? They bought travel insurance HOWEVER it doesn't cover bankruptcy but will it cover if they are stranded without a return flight home???

Thanks! sue

They'll be fine. They are not filing Chapter 7. They are filing a reorg--chapter 11. That means that it will be at least 6-8 months before they would actually go out of business. Personally I don't see it happening. I think we'll know better int eh next few weeks as they renegotiate contracts witht he unions and find out if theya re getting the Federal Loan.

I live in Pittsburgh, USAir's main hub and Allegheny County's largest employer (about 11,000 employees). There has been absolutely no talk of them shutting down in the near future. They may file bankrupcy to get the unions to give concessions and to get federal loans. They want to put on more regional jets but the pilot's union is fighting it. The longterm expection is that another airline will buy them out and take over their hubs/routes (rumors are Northwest, American or United). They had a merger agreement with United last year but it fell through. They will be fine in June.

DebbieB is right, we live 60 miles from Pittsburgh, I read there paper (Pittsburgh Post Gazzette) everyday on-line.They are using this warning as a bargaining tatic against the unions to get concessions. We already have purchased tickets for Florida over Presidents week(Feb 2003). I am not worried.

Thanks all! ncligs if your not worried holding tickets for 2003 then June should be a piece of cake, lol! IF all the "talk" is to get the unions to bargain I would think they are losing many customers in the process. I am surprised it would be worth the trade off.

Thanks Again!
Sue

I have tickets for November of this year and since this is the first time flying as a family, I panicked when I heard about USAir filing bankruptcy. They I talked to a flight attendant I know and she basically told me the same things as the previous posts. Whew! That was a load off my mind.
