this is off topic, but has anyone rented in las vegas lately,

they have a whopping 41% " add on " in concession fees, customer facility charge, licence recovery surcharge, county tax, government service fee and GET THIS.... a tax/tax recoupement charge...

the customer facility charge is 3$ a DAY ( wonder if that goes to the airport or to the Car Company )

just hope that Orlando never gets the same idea to "gouge" more money out of rentals...

a 164 base rate gets 67.37 added onto it to come to the final total.....

This must be something new. We rented in 2002 and didn't pay any crazy fees like this. We had the car for 10 days (National) and I remember it being very inexpensive - under $250.

In all honesty it don't thinkit's worth it to rent in Vegas unless you have specific places to go & know how to get there.

Taxi's are cheap. I think only about $10-15 from McCarren to The Strip. Plus there are tons of accidents because pedestrians walk wherever & whenever they want & the tourist drivers are so busy looking around &/or trying to find there way that it causes many problems. Don't forget about the monorail that will take you basically from one end of the strip to the other.

If you are staying with family/friends I would have someone pick you up or look into off-airport pick up sites. Any possibility they might be cheaper?

Have fun! My DH & I were just talking last night about going back to LV.

FWIW: I always rent a car in Vegas. While the fees are ridiculous, that's offset by the lowest base rates in the country. I usually pay about $13/day, and have never paid anything over $20/day (before fees). You can avoid some of the fees by not renting at the airport, but the base rate is higher.

Ton's of great scenery and other sites away from the main strip tourist areas make it worth it for me to always rent a car.
