I'm not sure where I have the quote, but Walt Disney did not make kids' movies. He wanted to make family films that have something in them for every member of the family. I'm mentioning this because of the PP who says that even kids' movies have things in them for adults. Yes, they do
We love the Simpsons (great commentary on our country), but we stopped watching once the kids came along. My kids don't equate getting a toy with seeing the movie it's tied into, but I know what you mean.
As far as banning Spongebob and having nothing to fear on Disney Channel: have you seen Tailspin? It was just on, and it shows the animal characters shooting each other with machine guns!!! Silly gags won't ruin their morals, but making violence "normal" might. Believe me, the kids who are running around like maniacs in Kindergarten learned it from each other. That's what happens when large groups of kids are together all day long
