Probably should create a poll, but will try this first......what flavor is best to use so you can't taste the lovely prep-solution for a colonoscopy :scared1: ?????

Choices are: Pineapple, Orange, Lemon-Lime, and Cherry.

TIA

I don't think it matters all that much. You have to drink so much of it in a short period of time that nothing is going to help. Even too much of your favorite flavor is too much.

Hubby went with the Lemon Lime on the recommendation of some co-workers who warned him that the sweet of the cherry gets overwhelming quickly

PS - Desitin and baby wipes were his best friend

My vote is Lemon-Lime, but they're all pretty awful from what I understand. Could you fill up the jug the night before and leave it in the fridge overnight, then add the flavor pack right before you drink it? I've heard it's a bit more tolerable if it's fairly cold, but you may want to double check with your pharmacist.

Nothing red; my directions said I could add Crystal Light lemonade to my prep. I'm not fond of lemonade so I didn't add a thing. I tried to drink it down as fast as I could without breathing & that did help. Immediately after I had a swallow or two of fresh cold water to rinse my mouth.

Take heart--the prep is the worst part.

I've done all of those except pineapple (blech) - and not one was any better than the rest. Like someone else said - even if it's your favorite flavor, the amount you need to take in such a short time is so overwhelming that you may start to detest it. The last time I was able to use Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade - you'd think that would be good - OMG I havent been able to even smell raspberry lemonade since. I froze mine into slushy consistency, that helped a little bit, but it was still torture getting it all down!

Good luck!

I know what you mean. I used the cherry years ago before my gastric bypass surgery, Dang near wrecked my tongue! I couldn't stand the taste of anything cherry for about three years afterward. lol

Something tells me that your best bet would be the flavor you like least anyway. lol

Good luck!

DH's Dr. and the Pharmacist both highly suggested he chill the water ahead of time, they said the colder the better

I've got one coming up next Wednesday. Get this! My doctor wants me to take 1/2 of the prep-solution on Tuesday and the other 1/2 Wednesday before the colonoscopy. TWO days of fun!

I was very lucky! I just had to take pills!:)

This was my suggestion. I was given Mountain Dew after I had my tonsils out, way back in 1976, and I couldn't drink it for nearly 10 years after that.

I would not choose lemon-lime, unless you don't want to drink Sprite or 7Up again this decade.

Good luck. :flower3: I think temperature is going to help better than flavor. Go for the cold!

The prep you're getting has a flavor option - you don't have to use it. It's not like mixing it into something, like I think previous posters think it is. I had the same kind a few weeks ago.

I chose orange. I really don't care for lemon lime or cherry flavored stuff and I smelled the pineapple and opted for orange. It smelled the most orangey.

None of it is good. It still was disgusting and hard to get down but it did have a tint of orange flavored soda to it.

Yes - make sure it's COLD. I find that gulping it with a straw helps a lot.

Good luck!

Is this akin to "OT: The Most Tolerable Circle of Hell?"

Do they have Screwdriver flavored?

Someone once told me to hold an ice cube on your tongue for several minutes before to numb your taste buds. Good luck!

That may have worked, but somehow I doubt it. lol! I even held my nose and that stuff went through my entire head! ;) You could not help but taste it. rofl

I say Lemon Lime. Be careful, you won't be able to tolerate anything lemon-lime for a while! I had to take it a few times when I was on chemotherapy, both the lemon-lime and cherry flavors. I still can't drink Mountain Dew (or anything lemon-lime flavored for that matter), and any red liquid will bring on nausea and vomitting just by looking at it.

Hope everything goes well for the colonoscopy!

I used several together, I think lemon-lime, cherry and held my nose when drinking and got through it fine. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I think every place has different things they use because I had 2 choices - unflavored and ginger-lemon. Actually, I think the stuff has since been recalled. Ha.

Anyway, I actually found the unflavored was the best option. I mixed it with iced tea. Gave the iced tea a salty flavor, but was much more tolerable than the ginger-lemon.

I've also had the lovely experience of chugging a jug of GoLytely (while pregnant). That stayed with me all of 20mns before I hurled it back up.

My other recommendation is to invest in some Wolfgang Puck broths. Really treat yourself the day you have to live off liquids. :thumbsup2 They're really good.

After, get some Prep H Cooling Gel.

Drinking the prep is the worst part, for me. I can tolerate a day in the bathroom - I live it at least 2x a week. I don't mind the test since I'm knocked out (my doctor is very generous with the Fentanyl!). I just hate drinking that stuff.

I'm supposed to schedule mine soon....I have the slip for the bloodwork, I just haven't made a move on it yet. :guilty:

Good luck!

My pharmacist gave me all four flavor packs to add which ever I wanted to the jug. After reading other posts and knowing that I don't care for the flavor of fake sugars, I came up with following plan and it's working. I'm doing it as I write this.

I didn't add any flavor to the jug.
I drink 8oz serving from a plastic cup with lid and straw.
I drink it down fast while holding my nose and chase it quickly with
a gulp of WHITE Cranberry juice.
The cranberry juice instantly kills the flavor of the prep liquid and leaves a nice tart cranberry aftertaste. It's working really well!! I'm also eating regular sugar orange jello. Remember to use ONLY white cranberry juice.
You're not supposed to ingest anything red during the prep process.
Best of luck.
