OT--Anyone been to the Keys??? Should we....

We are a family of 5 with a 7, 5, and 2 year old. We have an opportunity to go stay in a cabin at Bahia Honda State Park next week.

The drawback is that we will have to drive---AT LEAST 12 hours. We will stay the whole week if we go.

My question is, if you have been, is it worth the drive with the kids?

I am sure someone out there can give you more information than I can, however, I had stopped into Bahia State Park more than 10 years ago, and it was beautiful. It was like going to a tranquil beach in the Carribean. The water was shallow and crystal clear. I dont believe that there is too much in that area, and I think that Key West is not that far away, and there is more to do in Key West. My three kids are the same age as yours, and I think they would enjoy it. I would go, I know the ride is long, but with it being summer vacation time, I would give it a try.

Thanks for your reply. We all love the water and don't need a lot to do. It is just the ride that makes me tired already.

You should go if you like the beach. It is soooo beautiful there. We lived in the Keys for awhile and sure do miss the water there. Even though we are still in FL, the east coast beaches are nasty compared to ocean in the Keys.

I know what you mean about the drive. My DD(4) gets car sick so driving is a nightmare. Can you take extra time driving down and make some stops? It may shorten your time in the Keys, but a whole week is alot as there's not that much to do except water related stuff. Not sure where you are driving from, but there's the Miami Seaquarium and of course if you're driving by, why not spend a day at Disney!

our whole fam stayed at the Duck Key at a fabulous resort that had a teen area, a great toddler pool, great adult pool, excellent food, mini golf/regualr golf, fabulous bars, you could schedule swimming with the dolphins (we did with our 3 y.o.), numerous boat/snorkel/scuba diving tours, etc..... The snorkeling there was AMAZING and SCARY!!!!! Those baracuda look mean underwater!!!!
