OT: Any lawyers/real estate lawyers on here?

Hi,

I need to sell one of my lockers in my condo. It is not part of my mortgage. So I don't have to do that paperwork.

Is is true that I must use a lawyer because it's "property"? Can you use the same lawyer as the buyer?

I've heard $300-$500 for such matters - closing costs. Is that true? For a locker? Oh boy.

I'm really hoping the Cdn. boards has a lawyer to answer these questions. If so, lucky me. I'd like to be educated before talking to a lawyer in my area.

I'm not a lawyer.....I would call the lawyer that you used to purchase your condo and ask your question. Your question is not complicated so they should just answer it, no charge, since you are a past client.

I'm not a fan of my former lawyer, and because of many closing issues - the feeling is mutual, so I won't be using him. Funny, he was wonderful on our first no issues closing but a nightmare when I needed him on the second. Missed something I kept pointing out. And was no support despite his screw up. to lawyers just not him. I just wanted to be educated before I phoned. To get it all straight in my head.

A lawyer PMed me. I love the DISboards. There's nothing you can't find out here.

That's great.....

I know what you mean about having a bad transaction with a lawyer. It happened to us too. We were charged over $300 for something that should have only cost $50. At the time we didn't know what the going rate was and we trusted our family lawyer when he said 'it won't cost much'. Needless to say we have a new lawyer now.
