Ok what books have found to be helpful and what movies if any have you found to be helpful for your kids during potty training? DD is 18 months and we tried potty training a month ago and she got the hang, but wasn't vocal about when she had to go so we stopped for a bit. Well her ped told us today that we should just go for it b/c she seems ready and give her time and see how it goes and not to give up this time.

Well I feel lost as a first time mom and need a book or some guidance as to what to do to help DD learn how to use the potty and to tell us. She is very proud of herself when she goes on the potty and very upset when she goes on herself, in her undies or when she had diapers even when she went in those.

What are some tips or web sites you have found helpful and could pass along to a fellow mom.

I am home all day with her and we don't usually go out till after dinner time which is her last drink for the day usually. We also leave for Disney the end of Nov so any tips for while we are there would be great too! Ohh she only likes to use the big toilet with the child seat on it, she hates the ones that sit on the floor.

Thanks for any advice and please no flames for starting her at 18months since she is ready.

We got really excited at 18 months when DD started to show an interest in potty training- we even bought the potty and tried to use it. She would tell us (sometimes) when she had to go, she'd wake up dry--all the signs of "readiness" but then she reallylost interest and it began to feel as if we were being trained more than her. Her pediatrician said that kids really aren't ready to potty train until 2 1/2 because they don't have the control function developed- it may be beginning but not fully developed and can cause lots of frustration for kids and parents. I've also heard soem of my other friends who's kids are slightly younger than DD who get really excited when their kids show an interest at a young age (as I definately did!!!) but it seems to not pan out for them either. DD is now slightly over 2 1/2 (can't figure out the months right now--32?) and is having lots of success with the potty- not perfect and sometimes she gets too busy playing to go but overall- she's doing great and very proud of herself. My advice- if you do continue to try the potty training is just to rleax and let the child take the lead- don't push or pressure. No one goes to kindergarten in diapers and in the grand scheme of things what is a few more months in diapers? Good luck! Hope it all works out!

I'd suggest planning now on still having her in diapers for your trip in November. At that age, even if she 'gets it', the excitment, thrill, or chill of Disney (some of those rides/shows/characters are scary) is going to make it more likely that she is going to have an accident, and likely many of them. So unless you want to spend lots of time treking back to hotel rooms or carrying several changes of cloths, I think it will be much easier to plan on diapers and the diaper bag.

Of course to try to get the best of both worlds (diapers, but still trying to train) would be something like the pull-ups. That way you can still try to encourage her to "keep her panties dry", but you still get the backup of diapers.

Thanks- I saw someone before say to do the undies but put a pull up on over them so if they do have an accident it won't go all over the place, but they still learn. I believe she is ready like her ped thinks and now it's just time to take it slow like you both said and let her lead the way.
