At what age did your child start using computers for school projects and such? I don't mean for games and recreation, but for school. Our twins are going into third grade and my mom is getting them EACH a laptop.
A gift for going into the next school. Anyway, it got me to thinking. I know in our school district, the kids are doing Power Point presentations for homework and school projects in fifth grade. To do that, they must learn Power point in third or fourth grade. Also, I know some of the fifth grade teachers have students doing mini research papers. Anything else that you have found that your child needs the computer for? Does this seem the norm for these types of projects compared to other schools? I teach middle school in the same district and I know the students come in knowing how to do a lot on the computers, but never really gave much thought to when they started.

It is what it is and I'm sure that they will have them a good long time. I know in the middle school where I teach, the sixth graders do a considerable amount of work on home computers and since I will have two in the same grade and one in the grade behind, I see computer time being an issue in the coming years. Do they need them now? No. Will we need more than one computer in the future? More than likely.
