So I am stumped on ideas for DD 1st b-day. For my oldest I made Mickey Mouse invites but didn't really have a theme. It was more about color which is fine by me. But for DD #2 I'm lacking ideas. I was thinking about rubber duckies but are they more baby shower than baby birthday? The theme does not have to be Disney themed either. So what did you decide for your child's 1st b-day theme?

I did Elmo for DD's 1st birthday. She liked Elmo and Sesame Street and I thought the bright primary colors were good for a first birthday. It was also easy to find stuff with that theme. Now, I am especially glad we did it because she insisted on the exact same theme for her 3rd and 4th birthday parties - Disney princesses.

I did Elmo too for my first son's bday party since he loved him. But for my youngest DS I don't know what I am going to do. I did Mickey mouse for my oldest son's 2nd birthday and had so much fun with the theme. My friend did ducks for her DD's 1st birthday. It was very cute. She even baked her a ducky cake for her to dig into. If you do a search on the web you will find loads of ideas for themes and stuff. That is what I did.

We did a luau theme with the dishes from the Mickey's Tiki Kingdom theme at this Disney Store this past summer. We had a Lilo and Stitch cake and a Little Mermaid (her MeMom couldn't choose just one) We did BBQ and ham and chicken. It was a blast.

We did a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme for DD's 1st birthday this year. I got a really cute table cloth and balloons online. For favors we found mickey ears online and we did mickey/minnie coloring books and crayons and all sorts of candy. I also made Mickey sugar cookies and frosted them with all of the different primary colors. It was so much fun! There are a lot of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse party supplies online.

we did a football theme for ds b-day, because his birthday is in november (prime football time) and my husband is a big football fan... :)
his 2nd birthday was an airplane theme...
i suspect his 3rd birthday will be a cars theme if his current obsession lasts a couple more months...

for dd, we did a beach/pool theme, but her birthday is in july, so it sort of fit...

other themes of 1st b-day parties i've been too were disney princess, primary colors (with a cool xylophone cake), trains and sesame street...

i almost did a barnyard theme for my dd's birthday - i found some great websites on how to decorate cupcakes like a pig, cow, chicken, etc... i thought that would be really cute... but, i ended up going with the summer theme instead...

have fun planning the party, whatever you decide to do!

You could have so much fun (and find a ton of stuff) if you did a Winnie the Pooh theme! Who doesn't love Pooh? It's still Disney, just not Mickey...

What a lot of our friends have done was use the nursery theme for the 1st birthday. We did that as well and used Pooh. it was so easy and fun. Ds is now15 but was quite premature and we had overwelming support from family and freinds that first year so we threw a huge party for his 1st bd. We just did cake and ice cream and did a shelter at a local park. It was just right. We are now planning the bd for our niece's son (he is more a grandbaby to us)
and she (we) are ging all out this time. It too is a pooh theme but she is having loads of food and inflatable boucers etc. i keep reminding her that this one is for mom and dad. The rest will be for the child, so just have fun with it . I remember i wanted a barn yard party for the 2nd b-day but my very verbal 2yr old insisted on Barney and I never got to choose again.

Just have fun.

We did puppy dogs for DS's 1st birthday, since that was one of his few regularly used words at the time. For his 2nd, we did a train theme.

We are doing a Princess theme for DD's party next sunday. I made wands for all the girls and bought little pirate swords that are pens for the boys. As party favors for the adults I took canning jars and painted the lids pink with ribbon that says princess. We filled them with Hersey kisses and included a tag that I printed that said thank you for coming to my 1st birthday. They also were princess theme. Each kid will get a little box decorated and filled with princess or priate stuff.

We are having the party at a resturant so I didn't by any tableware. I an not sure if I can decorate the tables but if I can I am going to put some pixie dust.

Of course the Birthday Girl will be wearing her crown(if she keeps it on!)

DD's first birthday was last week and we did a rubber ducky theme. My oldest DD made a bathtub cake with a rubber ducky on top which was a mini cake for the baby to eat. We ordered rubber ducky favors from Oriental Trading. For the adults I took Yankee Candles and added a custom label. I also took Hershey's Kisses and put them in tulle netting and added a tag that said "Kisses from Izzy".

We did a luau theme as well. We DD loved the hula girls that we used as decorations. Everyone that came to the party was encouraged to wear Hawaiin clothes. It was a lot of fun! I know they had some Luau theme items on clearance at Pottery Barn Kids too the last time I was in there in case you are interested!

For my dd's first we did a Baby Einstein theme and it turned out really cute. We used primary color balloons, napkins, plates, etc and bought a couple baby einstein first birthday decorations. For the cake I did cupcakes with white icing and primary colored sprinkles. My dd seemed to enjoy it.
