Hi all,
I wanted to share a very sad story with all of you. I hope it is a wakeup call for all who lift weights and the danger that could happen. I read this article in our paper this morning. He was from my hometown. Please pray for the family.

RICHMOND — A Foster High School student died when a 240-pound barbell apparently fell on his neck while he was lifting weights, authorities said today.

Cameron Michael Schaub, 16, was found dead on a weight bench in his home in the 2700 block of Green Falls Lane about 6:30 p.m. Friday, said Fort Bend County Sheriff's spokeswoman Terriann Carlson.

Schaub died from asphyxiation, according to autopsy results released today from the Galveston County Medical Examiners Office. The autopsy determined the asphyxiation was caused by compression of the larynx.

Carlson said it appears the death was an accident but the case remains under investigation.

Very sad.

First rule of weightlifting is "Never, ever, lift without a spotter." Please remind your kids (and other friends or family members who do weight training) how important that primary safety rule really is.
