Orlando Smackdown: Dis vs. Uni. Ch.16 Japan Hates me, Just Hates me 7-13

So I live in Canada and have had grits almost as often as a Floridian. Who'da thunk it!

Is the cheese the only thing you ordered?

Plus you'll have to let us know if it's everything you remember it to be.

No, with a $100 order, you get 10% off. So I ordered 10 packs of cheese ($48), 10 packages of cooked potato dumpling ($48), a box of liquor filled candies, some nougat balls, some marzipan and 3 packs of pork gravy. Total came to $110, so I saved $11, but the shipping was $15, ackkk.
But I had to order the cheese while it was in stock, which for some reason I cannot fathom is a rare occasion, as they are in every store in Germany.

I am slowly gearing myself up to make it, I will let you know how it went.

PS: the package came wrapped in Styrofoam and dry ice (or whatever those bags are)

And as I have been otherwise engaged for a few weeks, can I have an update on the whereabouts of Smidgy and her "Old Ball and Chain"? Are they in the Happiest Place on Earth? If so, when will Mom and Dad be back (so we know how much time we have to clean up the house)?

Margy, yes, they are there again, but I think they are due back home any day now, so stay tuned for updates

Ponzi,

Your girls are beauties,

Yes they are, if I do say so myself. They take after their mother.

That's a good thing.

I would think that if they got their looks from me, they'd be awful tired of constantly hearing, "Ya know... you're goofy looking."

but if those aren't two of the most classic, "Are you kidding, Dad??!!" looks, I don 't know what would be.

Actually, Kay's look is more of a "I'm tolerating your picture taking while trying to look cool" look.

And as for your intro question, (1) Flo, "Kiss my grits!", (2) the first appearance of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, and (3) the more recent knock-off (unfulfilling, as no one can play John Wayne, but John Wayne).

Ding!

And yes, about only the Duke being able to play the Duke.

BTW - I have a cousin who named his two boys Rooster and Ethan, after John Wayne characters. And, yes, I have that kind of a family.

:lmao:

And as I have been otherwise engaged for a few weeks,

Congrats! When's the wedding?

No? Not that kind of engagement?

nevermind.

Should be pretty soon... but I'm not sure if Neebs said exactly how long they'd be gone.

As for cleaning up the house....

ummm....

I guess we could ask the moderators to delete the last few pages???

They are? If I could be sure that I could ship them from Canada to the U.S. I would. I'll have to look into that.

Hey! Maybe they broke some interstate laws there! You could blackmail them for a lifetime supply.

Just a thought.

There ya go.

It was everything I remembered! Although I toasted the bread a little too long and I had a little too much of the cheese, so I am a little queasy right now, LOL. But I loved every bite while it lasted. 1 package down, 9 to go...

The candy stuff will have to wait for another day.

Post 11,000! Do I win a big, fabulous prize?

Aww Pkondz, you are one step closer to being a citizen of Hazzard County with the Duke boys! ;)

I will have to post more about your grits experience once I can see the screen. Your grits tale has made me cry laugh tears.

I like my grits on the thinner side, trust me, it DOES make a difference. And as Nebo has mentioned, appropriate seasoning is key as well.

We are back at Casa Buzz, it was a long travel day.

More later on your grits tale when I can see.

Should be pretty soon... but I'm not sure if Neebs said exactly how long they'd be gone.

He called me to wish me a Happy Birthday. You know, the night he said he couldn't sleep. He called me about 9pm, my time. Which was 10pm his time. He had to be up 5 hours later.

Anyways, he said they were going from the 15th - 29th. So if he's not sitting in a ER or hospital in Orlando (knock on Ponzi's head), they should be back tomorrow. Probably won't hear from them until Tuesday or Wednesday would be my best guess.

Just ran across this on a trip report from Hollywood & Vine and thought I'd post it as a PSA:

And let me just tell you about those cheese grits. DE-LISH!! I know my cheese grits. I live in Georgia and grew up on grits. You can't leave home and set out to make a life of your own unless you know how to cook cheese grits. And these were better than mine! I am making an ADR here next trip for these cheese grits alone! In this photo, they're missing from my plate because I ate them so quickly. No worries--I filled up a bowl with them!

I should have checked this sooner, we went down to Disney yesterday but for some reason I thought they were already gone..... Let me just say, I have been down there while Pop Warner was going on, but the group that was there this weekend would put them to shame! Some kind of world dance/cheer comptetition :sad2: WOW! It was crowded! We checked out this morning and headed home with even going to a park :drive: I was told they had been there since Wed. or Thur. It didn't help that we were staying at All-Star Music. I think we were the only ones there that weren't with the group :faint:

Anyway, about the grits.... I usually use the 5 minute variety, but thought I'd better send pkondz the real deal. I've never made any kind that you had to bake, add eggs etc. Just try the plain grits (recipe on box) and cheese (salt and pepper). That's how most people eat them ::yes:: Or even without the cheese, just add some butter (bacon on the side)

So Pkondz, who do YOU think got the better end of our deal :scratchin

go.

Actually, the wedding was 20 years ago, this September. However, the most recent event consuming our time was/is "Avascular Necrosis of the Hip"' which is doctor-speak for "Your husband's hip is junk and he needs a new one." So he gets a total hip-replacement in 14 days. Had I known that we would be shopping for after-market parts within 20 years of the "I do's", I may have thought things through a bit more. Just kidding - we are in this together and will come through with guns blazing. Besides, we have a 20th anniversary trip in September that includes a week in Key West and three days at the Beach Club/Disney. I have incentive for making sure that hip is in full working order.

Yes you do!!!! If you want, you can get a job at Disneyworld!!!

Aww Pkondz, you are one step closer to being a citizen of Hazzard County with the Duke boys! ;)

I used to watch that show religiously.

Not for the Duke boys....
Not for the General Lee....
Not even for Uncle Jessie....

If you can't see the screen, how come your not typing like Nebo?

"knock on Ponzi's head"? That means I need to post this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9G1VWo_yyU

:lmao: Guess I'll have to try them to see if I'm close or far with my grits cooking skills.

Yup. That's gonna be the next batch. ::yes::

Me. Your chocolate bars are all gone while I still have lots of grits fixins.

However, the most recent event consuming our time was/is "Avascular Necrosis of the Hip"' which is doctor-speak for "Your husband's hip is junk and he needs a new one." So he gets a total hip-replacement in 14 days.

My DDad had his replaced a couple of years ago and it was the best thing ever for him. He was in constant pain before. Now, way better.

Not to sounds whiney and needy... but... WHEN ARE NEBO AND SMIDGY COMING BACK?! :worried: I need a smiley face that rolls back and forth crying and kicking.... like a little kid throwing a fit...
I NEED A NEW CHAPTER! Someone make up the first chapter of their new trip or something-- I NEED DIS READING MATERIAL PEOPLE!
:sad1::scared::sad::(
I MISS NEBO... AND I MISS SMIDGY... AND I MISS SMIDGY razzing and correcting Nebo... and I especially miss Nebo getting WAY off topic and referencing something from the 60s or 70s that I have NO idea what he's talking about.
I also miss the photoshopped pics of Nebo doing (or being) something funny...
Wow... that's a lot of things I miss, isn't it.
I guess I'll go back to being sad until they get back. But I won't like it!:snooty:

hmmmm..... let's start with these:

As for photoshop.... I'm at work (9 hours into my 16) so you'll have to wait on that one.

I did make a first chapter for them once.... but it didn't work out so well... Nebo didn't die, but it was close. I don't dare tempt fate again!

They should be coming back from WDW today. Who knows when we'll see them on the Dis.

I could write about Nebo's next chapter, but I don't know how well that will sit with Nebo.

Kon-Man, I hear ya... I didn't work any really long shifts, but I work weekends and this weekend was a dooooooozy! It was a crazy weekend (today is my Thursday)-- but the weekend felt like itself was a week long! P.S. I'm also Dis-ing at work... when I probably shouldn't be... but dang it, I'm pretty much addicted.
I've gotten into copying TR updates into Outlook e-mails and reading that way... although, with the Disney pictures it's kind of a giveaway that it's not an e-mail that I'm reading.

Kon-man?

That's a new one, and I thought I'd heard 'em all.

I'm not addicted, though. I'm hardly ever on here.... um....

nevermind.

Pkondz,

Plan B is in play! With no dry ice, everything went smooth as silk. I sent it express, which should get to you in 3-5 days.

Now I just hope everything gets to you in good condition! ;)

Oh yeah, and I had to give you a first name. The post office would not accept an initial. Any guess as to what I might have named you? ;)
