Orlando Sentinel reporting Grand Floridian Spa closes 9/19 for 18 months

My kids had there heart set on doing the 'My First Facial' and 'My First Manicure.' I wonder if they will offer those services unique to GF spa elsewhere during the closure.

That was what I was wondering ... our next trip will be for my DDs 10th bday. I really wanted to do a few of the My Firsts with her. Seems like we are out of luck for this trip :confused3

i think the answer is yes, to DVC...

If this truly is the location for the future DVC, I wonder what business will be like for the wedding pavilion during construction. "I think all this major construction a few yards away from our wedding ceremony is just SO romantic, don't you think so, sweetie :lovestruc?"

And where would extra parking go, I wonder?

:wave2:

There's just WAY too much construction going on at one time in the MK and the resorts, IMO.

(Keep in mind there's construction going on in the upper floors of the CR as well... converting those rooms into... Well, I forget at the moment - some sort of theme)

People from 9th floor up are complaining about the noise, and one of the concierge floors is partially closed.

And, rumor has it that The Poly is next in line for a MAJOR rehab (perhaps even a tear down ?) of the perpetually leaking and dated GCH. I can't even imagine how that is going to work...

I understand the "move ahead or fall behind" business model, but it just seems like too much at once.

My thoughts always turn to the families that will be visiting for perhaps the first and only time in the coming year. That's a LOT of money to see cranes and hear jackhammers everywhere....

Those are available at SSR! If you're staying at GF or Poly there will be a dedicated driver to bring you to the spa!

The fitness center will remain open during construction, btw.

That was my first thought when I heard the podcast team talking about all the construction that would be going on at the GF.

"Is there any reason this man and woman may not be wed... *bang bang bang* *beep beep beep*" :scared1::scared1:

Edit to add:
It seems like the ladies over on the weddings & honeymoons board have the inside info. Tey were given rendering for a given time frame to get an idea of what the construction will look like on "your big day". They have posted a few on this thread along with a form email from the Fairy Tale Weddings group concerning the expansion.

I COMPLETELY AGREE with this statement. With all of the other construction projects going on to improve guest experiences, I don't think that it is necessary at this time to start an EXPANSION of the flagship resort and its spa. It seems that Disney is not giving (frequent) guests a chance to "breathe" with all this construction, either.

Seems to me like a good time to invest in the infrastructure.
I would imagine that in this market, contractors are looking for work, bids are competitive.
