Orlando Sentinel: Pembe Savanna (Kidani) to open on September 1! (with photos!)

The new Pemba Savanna flanks the wing set to open Sept. 1 at Disney Vacation Club's Kidani Village. Guests will get an eye-full of okapis (related to the giraffe), red river hogs, impala, waterbuck, blue cranes and spur-winged geese, Disney says.

The savannah anchors the expansion, which completes the build-out of Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, which now will total 449 two-bedroom equivalent vacation villages at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Those red river hogs are going to be interesting to watch. I can't decide which savannah I'll prefer. The Sunset savannah is beautiful, but this one looks like it will have some really interesting animals as well. So many choices, so little vacation time.

Thanks for posting the article. I am glad to see the resort on schedule. I truly believe that when all is said and done, that AKV will be the best overall DVC experience.

The red river hogs have always been our favorite animal at AKV and now there will be okapi, too! Very cool. We're looking forward to our first stay at Kidani in March of 2010.

My boys are so excited...They say the okapi is beautiful and they cannot wait to see "her"...We do not know if it is a boy or a girl but they decided it is a girl
