Voted the best Cultural Event in the city, the Fringe Festival starts tomorrow and runs through memorial day! http://orlandofringe.org/

If you're a local, I heartily recommend seeing several of the shows at the festival.

If you're visiting our area, a trip away from the tourist areas is well worth your time for this event.

We love Fringe! Aside from being a source of dynamic live performance it's quite possibly the GAYEST week of the year outside of Gay Days.

We always have such a great time at Fringe, so I figured I'd spread the word to all of you!

Anything you can recommend for this weekend?:goodvibes

I haven't heard anything specific yet. "Well of Horniness" has a phenomenal cast; and one of our disboard posters (QCast_Michael) is directing it.

The best advice I can give you is to go, see what appeals to you and see it. It's not a true Fringe experience until you've seen Good Fringe, Bad Fringe, and Gay Fringe. :rotfl2:

I'm with Rob on saying that we love Fringe. I've always considered it Homecoming for the Drama Dept.

As far as shows, I'm hearing good stuff about about The Well of Horniness, and The Executives Present: Free Kittens! (The first being a play, the second being sketch comedy). I know another group is performing Terrance McNally's "Corpus Christi". You will probably have good luck with "The SAK Show", which is performed by several members of SAK Comedy Lab (improv).

I would probably like a "Fridge Festival" too! :lmao:

I missed the whole concept entirely. I thought there was some sort of fridge convention. Like a Fridge Expo. I was rather stressed out yesterday so my brain wasn't working as well as it could have been. :rolleyes1

I thought maybe it had something to do with the Orlando convention center and would somehow impact crowds at WDW.

I have nothing to say back to that.

It just makes me laugh.

Fringe opened tonight, but I didn't attend any of the opening ceremonies nor shows because I had much to do in preparation for "The Well of Horniness" opening on Friday (5:30pm). Fringe producer Beth Marshall told us earlier in the week that we were #2 in advance ticket sales behind an adaptation of BoxCar Children.

More info on the show (including photos and videos) can be found here:

Other shows that are getting good pre-show buzz: The Dream Jar, The Karate Guy, Corpus Christi, The Bong Show with Pepe, Welcome to Hell, and Edges.

Are Wanzie and or Doug doing anything this year? They make me laugh!

Not that I have any free time this week....

I don't think so. But there's bound to be something just as funny being done! Go see something! Don't you have Sundays off? Go and spend the day!:yay:

Best of luck and break a leg, Michael!

I think we're going to try and see your show tomorrow. We can't catch the first performance because my partner, Scott, is in Li'l Abner out in Clermont and I'm seeing that with friends instead.

No show from Wanzie this year. I personally want him to revive "The Lion Queen and the Naked Go-Go Cub" at next year's Fringe. :dance3:

I'll be volunteering a few days but with my partner traveling during the week, weeknight shows will be tough for me to get to.

Break a leg, Michael!

Well, opening night of "The Well of Horniness" was a rousing success, complete with standing ovation. We even ran into Colaboy in passing so the evening was complete. :-)

After the show opened, we also saw "The Dream Jar" (which was amazing) and "The Executives" (hit and miss sketch comedy show).

Wanzie is not doing a show this year, but Doug (whom I regularly perform with at Sleuths) is in a show titled "Welcome to Hell" with the fabulous Elizabeth Murff (also family).

Well, we're back from our first outing to the Fringe festival this year. We saw Pie Face: The Adventures of Anita Bryant and thought it was very well done.

We also saw Well of Horniness and got to meet Q_Cast Michael (who directed it) and LOVED IT! So funny. OMG, I couldn't breathe.

Plus we had funnel cake and kettle corn! :woohoo: Who could ask for more?

Glad you made it, Rob! (sorry about the not breathing thing, tho! :rotfl:)

Also VERY glad you introduced yourself! As you no doubt witnessed, it gets a little insane over there, especially as some shows are letting out and others are setting up, etc. I had so many things going on in my head at once, I apologize if I was a little un-focused!

The food's been pretty good so far. I've sampled the pizza, the gyros, and the soft-serve ice cream with great results. My funnel cake was too well-done, but I'm willing to give it another shot!

Will you be going back for any more shows?
