This is what I read on an instagram post:

"Okay so I was at Epcot today and I noticed half of the Imagination Pavilion was painted over with grey primer. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to ask a cast member what the deal was but some of the orange and blue colors are gone. Anyone know what's going on? Could this possible be that they're getting ready to paint over those ugly 1999/2002 colors and bring back the classic purple and blue layout from 1982-1998? I also hear more construction going on upstairs at the old imageworks...one of the cast members told me that they're getting ready to reopen the upstairs."

This also mean that they are just giving it a new look because I think they turned the upstairs to an open space to hold events etc and that they are just giving it a new paint job...? or perhaps they are getting ready to bring back the original ride?

What are your thoughts?

This seems it was posted on facebook by Stephen Wortnington on a group called "Bring Back the Original Journey into Imagination Ride at EPCOT center

Well I wouldn't necessarily believe what's on Instagram. Nothing is happening with imagination at this time. In regards to the paint they may just be repainting the building. Grey is usually a base coat for a lot of things. The upstairs to imagination is pretty much empty and CM access only.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the Imagination Pavilion, but they are adding more flight simulators to Soarin' to help with the long lines that have been there since the attraction opened- like they are doing with Toy Story Midway Mania in DHS--- it is going in the building next door between the original TSMM and the old entrance of the Backlot Tour. Could this be part of that refurbishment, or is it just time to repaint the Imagination Pavilion? I think it's great that they are increasing capacity at Soarin', and just maybe they will be nice and return Journey to Imagination to it's original splendor.... oh, and do something with the top floor. Rumor has it that much of the stuff that was there originally is still there. Why not use it?

Imagination is a separate building. Soarin is in the land pavilion. The construction of the third theater has nothing to do with imagination.

It appears as though the OP I was responding to has been deleted, so this no longer makes sense.

I know, but the Imagination building sits directly in front of the building that actually houses the Soarin' flight simulators.... and with Disney, you just never know.
These imagination rumors are false so that's that.

well, seems as though there is no use for this post anymore, so I am going to delete it, as it appears as though I am talking to myself...lol~!

I really don't know why you are being so nasty to me. I come to this board just like most people to have a good time with other Disney fans, and speculate on what "might" be. I was just speculating. I try to avoid conflict with people, and don't know why you have decided that I am the person you would like to pick on. If you have a problem with my posts, please just ignore them and I will ignore yours. Thanks!
I'm not I'm just stating facts. I don't have a problem with your posts I'm just trying to keep the correct information out there to avoid confusion.

Remember the word came from the big cheese himself. Currently there are no plans to work with on a new ride.

Though this isn't the first time he wouldn't have been completely forthcoming with all the information...

I kid. Let's just get excited for ROL and that new show they're working on for Epcot.

I don't know how shovels are used to replace illuminations.
I was thinking of that show they're working on that is supposed to include interactive elements. I still think it's a tiny bit premature to be making a new illuminations.

Well the rumors for Rees were illuminations or Soarin

I never saw the Illuminations aspect of it get confirmed by the likes of Martin or people of note. In all honesty it seemed like people were guessing. The information (now pulled from his website) didn't seem to denote Soarin' at all.

Well I never really heard much different. Possibly new film in EO theater was speculated for a while.
