Orient Beach

We booked this excursion on the Magic. I have heard that its probably cheaper to just take a taxi there.
Is this beach close to the Port? If so, I might as well cancel. What do you think? We are 2 adults, can you recommend a better beach or is Orient beautiful?

I think Orient Beach is the best one on St. Marteen at least, but it's on the French side, so no... its not near the port. The Disney excursion there though was very nice.... the tour group was friendly, and informative and gave a nice island tour on the drive there, and allowed you to stop in the shopping district on the Dutch side (where the Magic docks) on your way back from the beach.

I have heard its very easy to get a taxi, but sometimes it's nice not to have to worry, especially if its your first time cruising in the islands.

But if you are only planning to do one beach day or one excursion, I would reccommend waiting until you get to St. Thomas... Meghan's Bay is gorgeous, as well as taking the Ferry to St. John, which in my opinion has the best beaches in the world.

Orient was nice beach, and I wouldn't mind going back.

Do Orient Beach on your own. It's great!! At most you'll pay $10/person each way ($40) and $10 for a couple of beach chairs and umbrella. So the cost is about $50 instead of the $90 through DCL. Oh yea, remember that Orient is a clothing optional beach. As you're facing the water there's less clothing the farther right you go.

And you're on your own schedule. We walked to town a walked the beach (great bay) in the morning, back to the Magic for lunch then caught a taxi to Orient Beach. We arranged with the taxi person to pick us up at a specific time and location. It was way easy to do on our own.

Save your snorkeling for St John!!
