Hey my fellow Disers!

Anyone know any great websites about organization and cleaning the house? I know there is a site where they send you little email reminders to do certain tasks, but I don't know the web address.

I HATE cleaning! Our house is a mess and I am trying so hard to get the clutter under control and get rid of all the excess junk that is just laying around.

Who else is trying to get it all under control? Any tips to share?

Thank you!!!!

I use Organized Home. Here is the declutter forum.
http://organizedhome.com/forum-7.html

Tips are to do SOMETHING, anything, even if it is for 15 mins.

Clutter needs to have a "home" and you do have to let go of things.
It is a process and a way of life. Kind of like a diet.:lmao:

My tip that helped me is the one thing I make sure I do is keep on top of the dishes.
Start a healthy habit there if you do not have one.

We all pitch in and if a meal is made dishes are done right after the meal. Dishes are not allowed to sit there.

Start getting rid of stuff...less stuff, less mess. Less clothes, less laundry and so on....it takes time to get there.

I know that a schedule is key to staying on top of things too....still working on that one.:rolleyes1

The website you are thinking of might by flylady.net to get daily reminders. Another website to look at is organizedhome.com

My advice - start small and set mini-goals. Don't look at the whole thing at once or you may get overwhelmed and give up. For a weekend, for example, you could tackle your closet - purge items that you not longer wear, need, etc. Organize like-items and install and new products you may need, etc.

If you only have 30 minutes - tackle that "junk drawer" in the kitchen, or go through the medicine cabinet and get rid of expired items. There are many things that can be done in a little time, and you will feel better. Then you can still tackle the bigger projects.

BTW - if you need professional help, I'm your gal. Really. :cool2:

Do you do this for a living?! Tell me, tell me! I live pretty close to ya! Feel free to PM me any info if you would rather do that than post on here!

I'm a fly baby with flylady.net The best couple of tips she given me

1. Make yourself small goals. i.e. clean off your nightstand...then keep it that way.

2. You would be amazed at what you can accomplish in 15 minutes. Set the timer and do an "honest" 15 mins...amazing

3. It took you more than a day to make the mess, it going to take time to clean the mess.

4. Dress to your shoes as soon as you wake up.

5. Shine your sink everyday.

6. Swish and Swipe your bathroom everyday.

7. If you fall off the cleaning wagon, pick yourself up and jump right back in. Don't use it as an excuse to stop.

Take time to read the site. Even if you pick up a couple of good habits it's worth it. Good luck!

I'm a FlyLady dropout  . I have been a clutterbug all my life and the only site that has helped me is organizedhome.com .

A big help was requesting for the Direct Marketing Association to stop sending me junk mail. That has helped cut my paper clutter by 75%.

GL to you! :wizard:

One great tip from FlyLady is the 27 Fling Boogie (I think that's the name of it).
You go through the house quickly and find 27 things to throw away. Do this several times a week and you'd be surprised how much "stuff" you can get rid of. I usually just put a brown paper bag in the middle of a room and keep tossing stuff in it. Old unmatched socks, gone! Lipstick that I never used, gone! Instructions to cordless phone that broke last year, gone! Old cordless phone, gone!

I like FlyLady. You can jump in at any point and you're never "behind". One thing I can't do though is keep my sink shiny. Nobody else in the house will do it after they use the sink- so I was just constantly irritated with everyone. I decided I could let that go.

I just can't do FlyLady either. The thing I took away from it was keeping the sink shiny.

I hated all the emails, it ended up being more work.

However it is good to read OH and Flylady to get you started. It did help me.:thumbsup2

A big help to me now are the shows on HGTV...."Clean House", "Designed to Sell", "Clean Sweep".:woohoo:

Clean Sweep (the original cast), really got me to let go of things I had boxed up but was not cherishing.
I am still letting things go but I have to remind myself, my memories are in my head....not in objects.
Hopefull by the summer DH and I can display alot of items we want to keep and get rid of things that we "just keep".
