Organizing digital photos?

How do you all organize your digital photos? I have been scanning tons of old family photos for backup, plus all of the ones I take myself. I have a somewhat elaborate folder system set up, but I'd love to be able to put "keywords" to my photos and find them easily.

Any suggestions?

If you use Google's Picasa, you can use keywords. I currently have the elaborate folder system too, but I want to use keywords too.

I used to use Picasa and liked that a lot - it's a great program and it's free. Just Google "Picasa" and download it. It's really easy to use and sort pictures. It even has some minor editing capabilities built in including a great red eye remover function. But, now we have a Mac and it won't support Picasa. We have dual-boot so the Mac can act like a PC but I rarely use that feature. I don't like i-Photo but I think I could if just took the time to learn it, but instead I use a folder system and I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks everyone! I had downloaded Picasa while ago and about a month later our computer had a major breakdown. I hadn't gone back to Picasa yet as I was hoping to figure out my options first.

Can I make Picasa pulls photos only from one place? Also, I have my computer backing up automatically to an external drive. Do you know if the Picasa keywords, etc would back up to there as well. I don't see why they wouldn't, but thought I'd ask.

You can make Picasa pull from more than one folder and as I recall it's not difficult to set that up. I don't know about the back-ups, sorry.
