In Oregon we don't pay sales tax. If I purchase something in Washington state where they do have sales tax, I just show my id and we are then exempt from paying sales tax.

Will this work in Disneyland?

What about when renting a car, etc?

Thanks for the info!

I highly doubt you would get away with that in California. I am assuming though.

I used to work in Washington on a whale-watching tour. The rule was, if we got people from OR, they got no tax on MERCHANDISE, but not on prepared food or on the tour itself, because the tour was a service, and food obviously had to be prepared. I'd venture a guess that Disneyland would say they are a service, because people are involved to make your experience enjoyable (ride operators, etc.), but you could always call and ask! I also think it may have just been a courtesy that our company extended since we got a lot of Oregonian customers, I'm not sure if it's really required.

Californian Law does not generally permit Residents of the State of Oregon to claim exemption from paying State and Local Sales Tax. As such, unless other proof of Tax Exemption is presented, the Disneyland Resort will collect Sales Tax on applicable purchases.

Per State Law, Sales Tax is not charged on items that are purchased and then shipped outside California for use outside California. As such, if a Guest purchases an item from a Disneyland Resort Merchandise Location and has it immediately shipped to their non-California address, they will not be charged for Sales Tax. They are responsible for paying any applicable Use Tax in accordance with the respective laws of their home state.

The same rule generally applies to Merchants and Restaurants located outside the Disneyland Resort.

Thank you for all of the info!

Do the gift shops ship items home? Or is that something we will have to do elsewhere?

I ordered a lot of stuff off of the disney shopping site prior to our trip last june- not only did I not have to pay sales tax on it, I also was able to use their $5 shipping promo- which i think they are still running... It also made itnice to not have toworry about a lot of extra items while I was there....

I was hoping that it might come close to evening out because I think we're going to have to ship things home anyway. I already have the souvenir fever.... eeeks!

Everything in the disneyland shops is in their online store?

I'm sorry, you will have to pay sales tax. As for shipping items home I have no idea, we drive to we just load our purchases in the van. :)

Unfortunately no, not even close :( I was hoping to do my Christmas shopping online but I'll be making a trip to the parks instead, twist my arm ;)

If you would like to have items shipped from a Disneyland Resort Gift Shop, simply inform the Host or Hostess at the time of purchase before you pay, and they'll take care of the process from there.

Please note that in order to claim the exception, you must have items shipped immediately at the time of purchase. You cannot take the items and have them shipped from elsewhere.

There are a lot of things online that are not available in the parks too- for whatever reason...lol.

No. You will have to pay CA sales tax, unless you buy a car, drive it directly to OR and register it there. Anything short of that will requrier applicable sales tax. Sorry.

Hey okay I live in Oregon as well and have been a Disneyland Annual Passholder for 6 years, one of those years living in CA. So here is what I know.... You don't get out of paying sales tax in any state other than WA. They will only waive if you ship like you said. Since tax is based on where you are shipping it to. I've never done it because I usually only buy a few clothing items, and other things. However I did have a friend purchase a painting from there, and had it shipped back to OR. I believe she paid $60 for shipping, and it was a fairly good size painting. So if you are planning on purchasing alot, I'd ship it. But like the previous post says, you have to tell them you want to ship it, before they finish ringing it up. I'm not sure if you just have to pay shipping once or for each time... Good luck, have an amazing time!
