Oral surgery with IV sedation: Tell me I'll be fine!!!UPDATE

I can't help you here but you'll be fine, Loopy maybe, but fine! :) :wave2:

This is a timely post as my DS is having his widsom teeth out next month. The bottom 2 are sideways. He is having the IV sedation. I am concerned about the after effects. I had my widsom teeth out years ago with just novocaine. Good luck with your teeth. It sounds like you won't feel a thing and it will be over quickly.

From the OP: Well, it's been 10 hours since I had the oral surgery. I was totally out of it. I remember the IV (the Dr. was actually pretty rough with the IV - the only uncomfortable part.) I could feel the drugs taking affect, then eventually came to and it was over, just as everyone said. I was in and out in less than an hour. Everyone was very nice to me (I shared my phobia with anyone in the dr's office who woud listen.) I dozed in the car and have pretty much just dozed and watched TV all day. The kids have been pretty good about being quiet. I'm still pretty drugged, but I need them or there would be real pain. (I really don't have a problem with that...just with dental procedures.)

I admit it...I was as out of it as everyone (including DH) said. In 1978 my dentist told me to come back the next year to have my wisdom teeth out. I never went back and I'm glad I didn't. It took me 25 years to have any problems and since then we've gone from novacaine to IV sedation.

Thanks for all your good wishes and encouragement! Sorry for any typos from this looped woman!

So glad to see your loopy post!! ;) Happy you came through A-OK, too! :D

And, as a couple posters pointed out, check about that straw business. My info is from a very long time ago. I'm sure they are right that things have changed.

Knowing that you made it through all right, makes me feel better about getting my own done now. Thanks!!

Yes, the sheet that the doctor gave me said no straws for something like 2 weeks.

It's the next day and I'm at work, although moving pretty slowly. The extraction site is pretty "throbby" but the codeine makes me pretty much not care. I would not, however, like to have 4 wisdom teeth out at once. One throbby place in my mouth is enough, thank you.

Not too sure about giving people legal advice while on codeine...we'll see how the day goes.

Thanks again to everyone.

Just noticed that I've been tagged...took a minute to figure out the references (maybe it's the codeine). Thanks tag fairy!
