Options on this side of the world

What do you do when you don't have time or money for a trip to the other side of the world to visit Walt Disney World? I realised it is not the theme parks I want but the perfect mix of beautiful Disney resorts with easy and convenient entertainment nearby. Disneyland won't cut it when I really want the resorts not just the parks so I would prefer to save long ten for a big Orlando trip. For now though I want to think of other options over this side of the world, any suggestions? Gold Coast theme parks are nothing compared to Disney. What about some great resort recommendations?

I think that's a question we all ask ourselves. I used to always come back to Disneyland.
We have been to Bali twice now, and about to book our third trip. It's absolutely nothing like the Disneys, but you can pick beautiful resorts, and there are lots of activities to experience. We stayed at Club Med, which, if you're into sports and activities, is a great choice.
Bali is also cheap, so you can still holiday while saving up to go back to Disneyworld.

Hong Kong Disneyland at the Disneyland Hotel (better than WDW deluxes I believe), with Hong Kong so close and Tokyo Disney Resort do it for us when we don't travel to the US.

Have you considered Japan? I loved it! The flight was incredibly easy compared to the long haul to the US, and the parks are so big and spacious that they feel empty, even though they're usually busier than you realise. TDR isn't actually owned by Disney, they're owned by a Japanese company, so budget is no concern when they're designing, and the results are astounding!

TOKYO DISNEY!

It's my favourite of ALL of the Disney theme parks. And there are regular airfare sales to Tokyo, including "two for one" tickets.

Japan is also a dream when it comes to using public transport. The food is wonderful. It is relatively affordable since the Australian dollar is still strong against the yen. If you budget wisely, you can probably spend less each day in Japan on food and public transport than in Australia.

The crowds can be bad, but if you go on weekdays and allow yourself a few days in the parks if visiting during a busy period, it's still possible to get everything done.

Hong Kong Disney was also enjoyable, but I personally preferred Tokyo Disney. I haven't stayed at the resorts in either Tokyo or Hong Kong though, so I can't really comment on them. I did visit the Hong Kong resosts and the public areas looked wonderful. One of the Tokyo hotels seem to have beautifully themed rooms.

Oooo lots of ideas thanks. I will have to do some research and planning to see which one looks like it has what I feel like I am missing.
