We will only use the tolls on our way to and from WDW. I have a rental car through Dollar. Are we able to opt out of the Pass24 (electronic toll system) and just stop at the booths and pay cash as we need. If so, do we opt out at the rental counter at the airport when getting our car??

Yes.

The Mandatory Electronic Pay tolls have not made it too much north of Miami, yet.

The Orlando area still has cash lanes. You'll be fine.

From the Florida Turnpike site:
Beginning February 19, 2011, all Turnpike tolls are collected electronically between the U.S. 1 (Exit 1) and County Line Road (Exit 47) interchanges in Miami-Dade County, and cash tolls are not accepted. Motorists will use either SunPass or TOLLBYPLATE, and everyone will enjoy the benefit of paying their toll without having to stop.

Is this still the case for the Orlando/Kissimmee/Sanford/Winter Haven area?

Thanks!

We have a Dollar rental next month and I'm wondering if we can opt out of the Pass24 fee as well. It's good to know that cash toll is still an option between WDW and the airport.

We have two non-WDW day-trips planned: (1) one boat tour with Wild Willy's in St. Cloud and (2) Kennedy Space Center. Could someone with knowledge please tell me if we must use toll roads for these trips and, if so, whether cash toll is an option?

Scotch,

We were in the Orlando area 11.8 - 11.11.13.
We paid many tolls from the Sanford airport to Kissimmee, and from Kissimmee to Legoland. We were always able to pay cash. Sometimes, though, there was no attendant and we had to use coins.

I suggest having plenty of change (quarters, dime and nickels) on hand.

There are not tolls from Kissimmee to Legoland. I-4 to Rte. 27 to 540W are toll free.

Yes, you can opt out of the Toll Pass with Dollar. https://www.sunpass.com/rentalcar Dollar's programs is listed on this site.

You best bet is to mapquest your two destinations. That will give you accurate directions and the option of using toll roads or not.
