Stay in the FW cabins?
We are trying to decide if we should drive down with a motor home? (renting it) or fly and stay in the cabins? we are from Southern Ontario so it is 27 hours drive... I think cost per day is cheaper to rent it but I have no idea on gas consumption on the way down + the time with 4 kids... I am not sure so I am asking for your take on it? has anyone done this before?

Thanks!!!

We priced it both ways (we're in MN). After paying for the motorhome rental, cost for mileage, gas, site rental, and the extra days needed off work for travel - it's cheaper to stay in the cabins. And less hectic. ::yes::

A motorhome would be fun though! We keep thinking about it! :teeth:

We have driven down from Mass in our motorhome. While it does cost a lot for gas we love it. Everybody will have a different opinion but for us it is very relaxing. It is fun having your home travel with you, the only reason you would have to stop is for the driver to stretch his legs and have a bite to eat. The kids play video games while we travel or they watch videos. We never hear "Are we there yet"
Since we own our RV the price of gas just takes the place of the airfare. Having to rent one of course would cost you a bit more. I have to say though some of our best quality family time has been spent in the RV.

Whatever your decision, have a great trip.

We rented a motor home for a trip about a year ago and had the best vacation we've ever had. Drove from Northern Michigan (about 24 hours) and the kids loved it (not to mention the parents). Very relaxing, kids played games or watched video (or made faces at passing cars  ).

Yes, it probably cost more than the cabins. But for the drive down, it was heavenly. If you're going in the winter, consider the cost of propane for heat while you're there, too...

We stayed in the cabins this past summer with 5 kids and had a great time. Although I have never driven that far in a RV, I do highly recommend the cabins.

I would like the rental motorhome option,

althought it may not be cost effective in your situation, you are often limited to a certain number of free miles then charged per mile after the limit, this could add up quick,

Thanks for all your help!
I have to do some number crunching and see what is the best, my sister and her family is debating on coming with us, so we can split the rv in half, which is nice too.. are you allowed to have a tent on the campsite with the motorhome? or do you need an additional site? this make 10 of us and that is tons to sleep in the rv.. 6 are kids tho so that is good!

thanks so much!

In regard to your tent question. We had 10 people over Christmas/New Years 2000/2001 that went with us in our RV. We put up a small tent for clothes a large tent for sleeping and a screened room tent for our little Christmas tree and presents. This was all in addition to our RV. We were there 2 weeks and never got any complaints, so I guess it was ok.
