So the beginning of the year brings a time to clean out our house. Plus we are moving and need to cut out some of our weight limit. We have some things to sell ( disney store costumes, american girl. riding mower, etc.) to sell. I have sold on ebay and craigslist before but they both have negatives to using them.
Anyway here have any other suggestions or tips on selling old items?

I love Craigslist because they don't charge fees and everythings local so there is (typically) no shipping

Thanks. I like that it's free too but a few bad news stories scare me:scared1: I think I will just suck it up and use them anyway. Ebay's fees are keeping me away from them this go round

I always use CL and have had nothing but good experiences with it (and I actually live in the city that the perpetrators of the most recent CL news story are from).

You could always search FB for local buy/sell/trade groups. I'm a member of a private one (you have to be added by a member so everyone's acquaintances of each other) and have sold a LOT through there.

Just make sure when you sell an item, make plans to meet in a very busy place. I usually meet near the "front" of a local target and let the buyer know that my husband is near watching me!! I don't make a big deal of it if things look fine, but just mention that my husband came with me in another car because he had errands to run in that area ;) You can never be too cautious. I would never let them know where I live (just a general area), know my name, etc. and would never sell jewelry - know that's what got some people in big trouble :scared1:. Also, if I buy something, the same things apply. Good luck!!

My local area has a barter, swap, sell or trade page on facebook that seems to be going well.

The problem is one item (a riding mower) is big and we already sold our trailer so they will have to come to our house:scared1: Of course my husband will be home but I am still nervous.

I'm new to the area (9 months) and I've looked for something similar but have had no luck.

natenapril, the large mower would be a problem to transport in a car :rotfl:. You could just be "available" for someone to come see it on Sat. or whenever a neighbor or two could just "happen" to be outside popcorn:: The more activity around the less likely anyone would try anything. Maybe not the ideal solution, but that's what I would ask of my neighbors ;) We are very watchful of each other here when we're away, etc. Good luck!

Oops, just realized that you live in Alaska :scared1: Maybe no one would just be "outside" for no reason  at this time of year!

We have one neighbor who is a drunk and accused us of killing his ducks:scared1::scared1:Long weird story. Very happy to be moving though!
We ended up putting the riding mower on Craigslist and someone will be coming to look at it after my husband gets off work this weekend. I think I will give ebay a try for the american girl items though.

We have a local paper I use. I tried Craigslist for a b-ball hoop and got some MAJOR crazy people. One guy wanted me to ship (a basketball hoop!!!) another called from 2 states away. Another told me to hold it and she would get it on Friday when she got paid, never showed (I was only asking $25). Finally some college kid bought it and I almost hung up on him because caller id showed a NY phone # so I thought oh, no another one!!!
