DH and I are considering getting a cell phone for DD12 for Christmas. I looked into adding a line to our AT&T plan, but it's $30.00 per month for unlimited texting PLUS $9.99 for the 3rd line. I can get her a Kajeet phone for $129.99 and $14.99 per month for unlimited texting and 60 minutes talk time. Please tell me what you think.

ok, i just bought the LG Rumor from Kajeet and will activate service right before Christmas. didn't want to miss that 15% discount!

My son did a test for them a couple of years ago. He was given the phone and an amount on the phone. Each time he took a survey he was given $ on his phone. There were a couple of surveys. I liked that I could control when he could use it.

We never had a problem with the phone or the service.

How does billing work? Is it a monthly bill? Or is it prepaid and you add minutes/services?

I ordered a phone for DS a couple of months ago. It was supposed to ship on a Monday according to them, but the order never even got processed. When I called them (about 10 days later), the man said he couldn't help me and didn't know why the order wasn't processed. I asked him to cancel the order, and he said he didn't know how to do that. I asked to speak to someone else who did know how, and he said there wasn't anyone else. In the end he offered to write a note and have someone take it over to order fulfillment telling them not to process the order. (And they didn't, so his way did work in the end)

I was quite disappointed, but in the end my mom offered to add DS to her plan.

We used it for our au pair and I don't think I'd do it again.

You pay $.32 each day whether you use it or not (approx. $10 per month).

If you set up 2 accounts (a parent and a kid) they take the daily fee out of the kid's account, so you have to make sure they have money in their account to cover the daily fee (which I found to be counterintuitive considering they tout the fact that you can have some control over your child's cell/text use through their account -- not as easy as they stated).

They charge for transfering money into your account and between accounts.

I just felt nickeled and dimed using Kajeet and it was difficult keeping track of where the money was going.

On the positive, I found the customer service to be fine.

Overall, I think there are better pay as you go plans out there.

They now offer a straight monthly plan. No need to pay the .32 a day if you go that route. If you want a pay per minute plan then you have to pay the .32 a day. We're going to the 14.99 talk/unlimited text plan.

that's the same plan i got! 60 minutes per month and unlimited texting for $14.99. i got an LG Rumor refurbished for $110 with 15% discount. it would have cost me $40.00 per month to add DD to my AT&T Plan ($30 unlimited texting, $9.99 for 3rd line).

We have used Kajeet as my daughters cell phone service provider for a little over a year. I'm actually getting ready to cancel though because we added her to our AT&T plan. But I have nothing but good things to say about Kajeet. She was on a 300 min, unlimited texting for $20 a month plan. Never any surprise charges or customer service issues. We never incurred charges for switching money between wallets like the previous poster. Justice did carry the phones, not sure if they still do. But that was a great place to buy one, especially with the 40% off coupons they always send out.

LOL we were AT&T as well. She wants the pink phone. She'll get it for her birthday in a few weeks.
