Hello,

DH and I are headed to WDW soon and he hasn't been since he was 5 (we are both in our 40's). I have asked him to look at menus, and he has done that somewhat, but has been happy to just let me plan everything for the most part. I think I finally have our ADR'S set in stone, and just curious if the meat and potato fans out there think he will like the ones I have picked. Any suggestions on what to order? He is a big and tall utility worker with a huge appetite, if that info helps. TIA!
-The Plaza
-California Grill
-Coral reef
-Le Cellier (tried to talk him in to Yachts man but he wants to stay at EPCOT for dinner)
-Hollywood brown derby
-50's prime time
-Tusker house breakfast (he loves Donald, lol)
-Boma (dinner)
-LTT
-O'Hana
-Chef's De France

Not to throw a wrench in your plans, but one place not on your list that my husband and all my boys LOVED was Trail's End. The southern cooking was pretty good (and we are from the South); lots of meat choices! We've only had a handful of TS meals, but DH asked me, "Why have we never been here before?!?!" and declared it one of his favorite restaurants on property. LOL!

Looks good. Similar to what we do. My dh does not like Prime Time or the Brown Derby. Coral Reef also not a favourite. We do Sci Fi at HS. Via Napoli at Epcot.

@LisafromIndiana our DHs sound similar (born and bred Hoosier, meat and potatoes man, not a utility worker but former college football player...), and DH LOVES his WDW food! @MommaBerd is correct--Trails' End is a must-do for your fella. If you can add that, please do. Here are his other opinions as I read your list to him:

  • DH gives The Plaza 2 thumbs up. Good food, decent portions, good dessert
  • California Grill is a 'no' from him. Tiny food, too fancy :scared:
  • Coral Reef is a good choice. Seafood is good and there are good sides
  • According to him, Le Cellier is very good but the portions are small. Just FYI
  • Hollywood Brown Derby is a good experience, but not his favorite
  • 50's Prime Time is very good, according to my DH. He doesn't like the schtick, but he loves the food and desserts and the portions are good.
  • Tusker House breakfast is one of his favorites. He's a Goofy fan. Good food and his favorite character for the win, lol.
  • Boma is another "no" from DH. He doesn't have a varied palate
  • LTT is another one he really likes. As he stated, "when is something like a Thanksgiving dinner NOT a good idea?". Although he prefers that meal for dinner, not lunch, because he gets too full to get on Space Mtn.
  • Ohana--I'll just quote him here--"Yes. Yes. Every day of the week and twice on Sundays"
  • Chefs de France--Again, my DH has an aversion to tiny food he can't pronounce. I personally love this place, but I go with our DD.
Hope this gives you a chuckle and maybe helps out! Have a great vacation!

You guys are great and exactly the reason I love me some disboards! Keep the great ideas coming!

Coral Reef - This place gets mixed reviews, but we had a good meal there. I had the New York Strip steak and it was great. The Bailey's & Jack Daniels Chocolate Mousse for dessert. They may not be very consistent based on mixed reviews, but our meal was great.
50's Prime Time - We eat there on every trip. I always get the Fried Chicken dinner. You get plenty to eat and it is great fried chicken.
LTT - I am a Turkey & dressing fan, so I really like this place. Good dessert too.
Tusker House for breakfast is a good choice. We really enjoy the breakfast there.

BOMA is really good - prime rib and pork loin..even tho there are lots of interesting things to try, they also have enough items for everyone.
Brown Derby seems to have gone downhill since we ate there - that is one i would consider letting go -
Coral Reef gets very mixed reviews - again, might keep looking:)
Your other choices sound good - what about Crews Cup? They don't take reservations but the food is really good and it would give you some flexibility one night - nice atmosphere and not packed...fun to walk around the boardwalk at night
Disney Springs has lots of great choices too - if you have any interest in exploring that area, I can recommend Homecomin'

Have great trip!

-- As much as I like Coral Reef, does not offer big portions. Alternatives include: Belly dancer in Morocco....Buffet at Biergarten.
-- Plaza is an OK stop, but not big portions either. No other suggestion, so just plan on snacking. Unless you can go to Be Our Guest (if this was for dinner to meet The Beast - who is likely bigger than your husband).
-- With the new Pandora stuff and nighttime shows in Animal Kingdom, you might want an evening there too. Tiffins (and Tusker House) have a dining package for River of Lights.

-The Plaza Great Meat Loaf
-California Grill I doubt he would care for the food or the tiny portions, would be a good one to trade and go to Trails End
-Coral reef There are better options, but he might like watching the fish while eating
-Le Cellier (tried to talk him in to Yachts man but he wants to stay at EPCOT for dinner) Try to change his mind, LeCellier has tiny portions and in my opinion is one of the most over rated restaurants at WDW, Yachtsman is well worth the 10-15 minutes it takes to get there, bigger and better steaks, more choices of steak and if he wants one steak but a different sauce or side they are more than happy to do, besides the onions rolls are great.
-Hollywood brown derby I haven't eaten here
-50's prime time Fried chicken, pot roast and meat loaf are all great
-Tusker house breakfast (he loves Donald, lol) Go for Donald, take the opportunity to expand his culinary taste
-Boma (dinner) Another chance to expand his food range
-LTT Perfect for a meat love, pot roast, turkey, its all good
-O'Hana one of my top 3 favorite places
-Chef's De France Several choices he would like, I also highly recommend the bacon and onion flatbread, one of the best hings that I have eaten in my life
If you have time read the review in my signature, its a bit out of date, but most what we had is still around and it sounds like your hubby would eat a lot of what I like.

My husband's favorites while at WDW in WDW were Tusker House (we did dinner, but I just recently did breakfast and both were scrumptious, and Whispering Canyon at WL, which is all you care to eat, although Trails End has similar food as well. Neither of us liked California Grill. If I had to do it again and wanted a signature dining experience, I'd do Artist Point instead.
My dad's favorite restaurant when he went to WDW was Beirgarten.

I enjoyed 50s Prime Time and you get a pretty good amount of food. Coral Reef can be good, but the last time our service was absolutely abysmal. My new favorite at Epcot is Spice Road Table. Amazing lamb! And nothing I had was overly spicey.

My husband is pretty adventurous but he still complains about the time we went to CA Grill 7 years ago.

My extended family enjoyed Tusker but not Boma. They're meat and potatoes types

Hi, great trip you have planned, but.....

Coral Reef left my DH and my DS hungry. To be honest me too because I gave them half my meal!!

Also

Le Cellier is nice, but NOTHING compared to Yachtsman and its an extremely short trip in through international gateway. You can return to EPCOT after dinner too!

Now for California Grill, its beautiful and something to experience but the food is pretty not necessary plentiful.

Good Luck!

As a man who does my own ADRs, I can tell you that between my October and November trips I will be enjoying California Grill, Le Cellier, 50s Prime Time (twice), Boma, and Ohana from your list.

My other ADRs are Beaches & Cream, Tiffins, Chef Mickeys (for my great nephew), Skipper Canteen, Biergarten, La Hacienda de San Angel, and Sci Fi Dine In

I just went through your list with DH, LOL! He gave a thumbs up to them all except:

The Plaza - I see this more of a "light lunch" type of place. I see you have LTT already. You might want to consider Skipper Canteen?

Coral Reef - not great and certainly not a meat and potatoes kind of place. You have Le Cellier. Perhaps consider Spice Road Table? The food is great and the portions are huge. My DS9 had the steak there on our last trip and it was delicious and gigantic. Maybe even Biergarten. Lots of variety there.

Chefs De France - not meat and potatoes at all and the food is extremely salty - again, would consider Spice Road and Biergarten if you don't want to head out to Yachtsman. Even Capt. Grille at YC would have better food than Chefs. The lamb chops at Capt. Grill are very good.

DH and DS both loved Boma. They are huge meat eaters and DS is far from adventurous.

My husband has food allergies but most of the ones on your list he has been to and enjoys: Coral Reef, LC, HBD, 50's PTC, TH, Boma, LTT, and Chefs.

DH is not a fan of the plaza. He sees sandwiches as not meals

Refuses to enter le cellier. Tables are way too close together and food is meh
Celebrated an anniversary at yachtsman. Wonderful meal. With the IG, it is so close, and so much better, imho. The walk to yachtsman is literally 5 min.

CG is just ok for him. There are other signatures he prefers. Narcoossee is hands down better

Bomanis a favorite.

Have a great trip!

Hollywood Brown Derby in my opinion is expensive and the food isn't great. Food choices in general at HS are not great. You already doing 50s prime time cafe, so maybe eat at one of the hotels instead.

Also, I prefer Jiko to Boma but you can't go wrong at any of the restaurants at AKL
