Hello everyone,

My DH and I just decided this weekend to head to Hilton Head next month (mid July). We are DVC members, but we are using our points for WDW in December; thus we will be traveling via cash reservation.

As it stands, we have a 1 br at Disney HH and a similar junior suite at Westin. The price for each resort are just a few $$ of each other. Eventually, we will have to decide to cancel one of them, or extend our stay and stay at both (which is unlikely).

My DH and I are looking for a resort feel, our DS's (19 and 15), would prefer to be at the resort that is most appropriate for older teenagers or have activities/places to see near the resort. What are your opinions as to what resort would be best?

TIA

We travel with a 18, 19 & 22 year old. On our last trip they like doing the Mickey tie dye shirts ($20) riding the bike trails and to the beach, kayaking and also check out Zipline Hilton Head. I can only recommend the Disney resort as I haven't stayed at the Westin. Recommend eating at Java Burrito, wishing we had found it sooner. The peach salsa is so good! You can bike over to Outside Hilton Head around the marina and schedule a boat trip to the disappearing island to look for sand dollars and starfish/ dolphins. They also have all day trips that you can plan. They have kayaking at the resort or you can go with Outside HH. The pool at the resort has a fun slide, even for the older kids. Don't forget they have pin trading, Mickey bars and dole whips!

I know that there's a billiard table in Big Murgie's Den, which teenagers seem to be glued to when we're there. On one recent trip, we noticed that the recreation CMs were hosting a billiards tournament. And if you're renting a 1 BR, chances are that you'll be in the Main Lodge, where Big Murgie's Den is.

It depends on how important the beach is vs other location issues since the Westin is out to itself somewhat. Personally I'd look for a condo or timeshare rental and at least compare to what you're paying for these. Ultimately I'd chose DVC unless the Westin is an OF unit.
