Hello, we are booking our first Disney family vacation. The first time I ever went was a couple years ago for my honeymoon, and that was a gift. I didn't have to do anything but book the places we wanted to eat with the dining plan. Here is my question, we stated at Cornado Springs and did not have a very good experience. I am wondering how these three resorts compare: Carribean Cove, Animal Kingdom, and Key West. We are looking at these three. Can anyone tell me if you have stayed at these, and if so if you had a good experience with each?

This is for my hubby, me, and our son who will be 18 months old at the time next May.

Thanks!

Can you tell us what the bad experience was? It might help when comparing the other resorts.

Sure, they gave us the wrong room than what was reserved for us. The 2nd room they gave us, we opened the door to find two people taking a nap...lol I know it was probably just a mistake but the customer service at the (sp) coincerige was horrible. There was one rude lady there that seemed to make everyone's visit miserable and she had tons of complaints. The bus never seemed to stop at our stop and once we waited an hour to go to Downtown Disney. There is more but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Carribean Cove, Animal Kingdom, and Key West.

"Caribbean beach resort", correct? Nicely themed resort with some "Pirate" themed rooms (and I believe other themes are available) http://allears.net/acc/g_cbr.htm

Animal Kingdom is a "deluxe". It has savanna views (animals) and the lobby is something to behold.

Key West is a DVC property with a variety of 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and studio villas.

Take a look around and post any questions.

Sorry your honeymoon didn't work out so well. I also have a Disney honeymoon story. It start out: we arrived, and they didn't have our reservation (the Travel Agent really messed up)... :)

Thank you so much, and I'm sorry you had a bad start to your honeymoon too. MK more than made up for the lady. :)

With a small child I would consider staying at the Contempory or Poly. Very short monorail ride to both MK and Epcot. So the transportation for naps would be very short. As for the rude CM, I think you can run into them at any resort so there is no way to say it would not happen elsewhere.

OKW is very spread out and therefore you will be on the bus for some time before even heading to the parks. Similar to Coranado. Anytime you go to Downtown Disney the transportation is slow. We have stayed at several resorts and found the only place that quickly gets you to DD is Port Orleans.

Hope this helps
Laurie

Surprised at the CSR (Coronado) service. That is my first pick for a moderate Disney resort.
My second pick would be French Quarter.
We have stayed in a standard room and a pirate room at Caribbean Beach Resort (CBR).
The standard was in bad need of refurbishment. I would like to think that was done since we stayed there. (Probably almost 2 years ago. :confused3 )
The pirate room was very nice.
Old Key West is a DVC resort, as someone mentioned. That and Animal Kingdom Lodges are deluxe resorts. Either would be very nice. Although I have not stayed at either. Over those two, my first preference would be AKL.
Since are considering deluxes, you might also want to check out Wilderness Lodge, due to the location.

We have stayed at AKL and OKW, but not CR.

AKL - very nice, love the atmosphere but it is a bit dark, even in the rooms, due to the animals in the savanah. There is a subtle Disney theme, less so than some of the other resorts, with an African twist.

Amineties are great and there is night-time story telling for the kids. Night goggles for animal viewing in the savanah area is fun.

They have Jiko for Signature dinners, Boma breakfast/dinner buffet, Mara for quick service. In the DVC area is Sanaa which serves all three meals. The gift shop features some very unique pieces - many imported from Africa.

Parking is in specified lots and can be a bit of a trek to some rooms.

Rooms are standard with lovely African style carved furniture. If you pay to stay in the new DVC rooms, they will feature kitchens/kitchenettes.

Transportation options here are bus or taxi and it is farthest from every park but AK so transport time is longer.

OKW - we absolutely LOVE this place. This was the first DVC built so ANY room you rent will have a kitchenette (studio) or full kitchen i(1, 2, 3 bedrooms). All units have been renovated over the last couple of years. Most buildings are only 2 stories and have no more than 8 units per building.

There are small parking lots everywhere so parking is available right by each building. A big plus for us was that laundry facilities are FREE (1, 2, 3 bedrooms have washer/dryer). There are several and they are located by small pools.

The grounds are very well developed and lush with many nice pathways. There is a golf course that actually runs through the resort. They also have boat transportation to/from DTD that is a very pleasant 20 min ride.

The studios feature 2 dbl beds, a small table w/2 chairs, a small kitchenette (tiny sink, tiny fridge, tiny microwave, toaster, coffee maker) with paper plates, bowls, plastic utensils and ceramic coffee mugs. Best of all they have a LARGE bathroom. There are also iron/ironing board, vaccuum, and some sort of crib? in the closet area.

Personally, we found the Guest Services at this resort to be the absolute BEST we ever had. The check-in area is smaller than most and feels very intimate. Food at Olivia's is nice as is the gift shop.

Bus stops are all around and usually not too far from rooms. You can request (due to your small child) a room closer to the main entrance so that you can catch the bus there on it's last stop before heading to the parks. They have their own buses and don't stop at any other resorts.

There are also the '600' building that are 3 stories with elevators right by the main building. Generally they prefer to put handicap or special needs guest here but it wouldn't hurt to request if you'd like. We prefer to stay way in the back in an area where you can see the boats.

There are lake, golf course views all over the place. With the lush greenary, you really don't get much view unless you are on a 2nd floor, but the privacy is really nice. Most rooms actually have windows on one side and patio on the other so there is a lot of light - and (at least in the studios) there is a porthole window in the bathroom.

Decore is truly Key West - more beach like than Disney. We actually enjoyed that - sometimes nice to leave the parks behind and relax in a sea of pastels.

Yes, I may be a bit biased, but we have stayed in value, moderate, deluxe and DVC and to date, OKW is STILL our very favorite resort. For it's unique style, architecture and atmosphere, AKL is a very strong 2nd.

Now, when we get back from our September stay in BLT, it may be a whole different story!

Hey Michelle3975 -- Now I know why you said "Carribean Cove" instead of "Carribean Beach Resort": You're from Indy. I thought that was a strange coincidence. I could walk to Carribean Cove.

What have you decided?

I dont like coronado either

I enjoy OKW, but with an 18 month old I would suggest AKL they have a zero entry pool, they have the animals for viewing, storytime and other activities for the kids throughout the day..much better resort for kids

bus rides from the parks, but worth it I think
