I hope this post isn't against the rules. If it is, I apologize and accept my public flogging.

I have two options for purchasing DVC resale

AKL 160 points at $69 with '10 points
BWV 150 points at $57

Why is BWV so much cheaper? Is AKL worth the extra money? My wife and I will be vacationing during the down times in Disney.

The contracts expire on different dates.

BWV expire 2042.
AKV expire 2057.

So, that's 15 more years if you purchase AKV.

Only if you really want to have AKV as your home resort and want access to things like the value room and/or the concierge rooms.

Remember, DVC slow times are not the same as WDW park slow times. Early Dec is a pretty slow time for the parks, but one of the busiest times for DVC and many book their home resorts at the 11 month mark.

We spent extra to own BLT over SSR because we knew we wanted to know that we would be able to stay there and didn't want to chance things at 7 months.

Good luck!

:welcome: to the Disboards!

Both of those are pretty good deals. Check the thread on right of first refusal, as the AKV contract may be a better deal than the BWV contract. Also, maintenance fees and closing costs are negotiable as well.

However, no matter the deal, buy where you want to stay. Disney is only obligated to let you book at your home resort based on availability. Who knows what they will do in the future. :confused3

Agree with PP's both good deals, buy whichever resort you like the best!

Even though the AKV contract expires 15 years after the BWV one does, do keep in mind the other aspects of the resorts as you are making your decision -- location, theming, etc. But, yes, those are both stellar contract prices!! :thumbsup2

Don't know what the maintenance fees are for each of those resorts but you may want to factor that into your decision also. Over the course of membership it can amount to quite a lot more than some people anticipate. If there is a significant difference and you like both resorts it might be worth some consideration in your final choice. The 2010 points are only worth something if you can bank them or use them before they expire.

Based on yrs left in these 2 resorts I think the price is really =. Given your cash out lay may not be.. but 15 more years sure makes a diff.

Whether it is worth it is a personal choice. Some people sweat by 1 resort and will only be happy there. Others like to mix it up, or are totally fne with staying somewhere else, feeling blessed to be stuck any where at DW.

It is really based on what you feel you can afford, and if it is worth a drop more up front to always (assuming pre planning) be where you want to be.

As a side not, the price per room for values at AK really kind-a makes up for the price per point. You could buy a few less points and get the same # of nights. Probably putting the price much closer still with extra yrs.

This is the best piece of advice. Slow times at WDW resorts=Busy times at DVC resorts. If you will be happy with either resort and don't care about the expiration, then they are equal. If you prefer one over the other, go with that to have a booking advantage.

Thank you all for your advice. My wife and I decided on looking at BWV. We love the location and the ambiance of the place.

Nice resort!!! :thumbsup2 You can get a great deal on BWV now. Prices have really come down a lot. Best of luck find a good contract.

IMO I would buy AKV for the extra years. We own SSR & OKW and love BW. We have not had a problem staying at BW with 7 month window.

We own at AK and OKW and enjoy the difference in the themed resorts. BWV is close to Epcot and if you enjoy the Boardwalk late nite live, you will have the 11 month window if you later change and need to go during buzy times. I love AK for the value rooms, the savanna views, and there are 3 great restaurants (IMHO). Best of luck trying to pick.
