Opinion of hotels south of Macon, GA (Byron area)

I'm looking at booking a hotel for a trip to the world coming up, and just can't decide. I like the Comfort Suite's in Byron (on Dunbar road if that helps), but found Best Western for better rates.

Has anyone stayed at any hotels right there off of I-75 Exit 149 and have opinions. I like to stick to name brands, and don't even dare to stay at a Day's Inn. Personal preference.

I just can't decide.

Fetures I'm interested in:
- Hot Tub
- Prefer indoor pool (just in case of rain)
- Decent rooms
- Non-smoking
- Breakfast would be nice too

We'll only be staying one night and maybe our friends who will be traveling at the same time might stop in and stay at the same hotel.

Any opinions are welcome...good, bad, otherwise.

Have you thought about driving a little more to Perry, Georiga and staying at the Hampton Inn located off exit 136? Whenever my family and I drive down to Florida along Interstate 75 we only stay at Hampton Inn locations because they are always clean and there is a continental breakfast with hot and cold items each morning. As for the other things you are looking for here is a link to all the information about that Hampton Inn.

I have stayed in that Best Western. It is awful. That town in general, was awful.

(Weird kids carving tables at the Pizza Hut).

The hotel was dirty, there are stale donuts for breakfast, the hot tub was not hot and the indoor pool was ice cold and filthy.

i still have nightmares.

Not sure I want to tack an extra hour of driving on to get to Perry. After seeing the other comment about Best Western, maybe I'll shy away from that one. I'm really leaning towards the Comfort Suites (AAA discount gets the price for our dates down to about 100 for a night). We are only going to be there for one night, but I don't want to drag my soon to be 8 month old and my 5 year old into a place that isn't clean.

We aren't going to be doing much sight seeing in Macon either, so I'm not so concerned with the town.

Thanks for your opinions so far. It's so hard making a decision. Even with decent name brand chain hotels, one town will be wonderful, while the next one will have a roach motel feel to it.

Sorry to scare you off.

I will say - what I've learned from that trip and in other trips -

Hampton and Holiday Inn Express have been consistently good. Better corporate oversight?

Both have rewards programs. And I've learned that $15 - $20/night for peace of mind is completely worth it, esp with the kiddos.

Oh, you didn't really scare me off. I appreciate other traveler's experiences. The last time I went to Disney we flew and had our stroller and luggage sent down with family who was driving.

We don't do a lot of hotel stays so I like to rely on what others have experienced in places that I'm looking at staying. Thank you.

Perry is exit 136, so if Byron is at mile 149, you're only talking an extra 11-12 minutes.

The Jameson Inn at Perry is nice and always clean, if you want something less expensive, but no hot tub or indoor pool (does have breakfast). It's not as nice as the interior-corridor Jameson Inns, but I've never seen a Jameson which wasn't clean and well kept. Also at Perry, but three miles down at exit 133, is a still fairly new (18 months old?) and very nice Microtel Inn. We stayed here last summer; The place was spotless and even 'fancy' for modestly priced lodging. Rooms both here and the Jameson tend to be smaller than average.

Yeah, I had a bit of a brain-fart...okay lets call it a google-fart instead, since google maps must have been having issues when I did the map. I realized after posting that the distance between the Byron and Perry exits isn't nearly enough to be an hour drive. I guess I wasn't thinking straight when I looked at the map.

I think, after talking with my wife, that we'll end up at the Comfort Suites. They look nice, have an indoor pool, and the hot tub looks rather inviting. We'll be getting there after about a 10 hour drive. So I should be ready to relax.

Thanks for the other suggestions and information. I do really appreciate it.
