Opening "shows"??

I was reading a post and it talked about rope drop and opening or welcoming shows.

What are these?

What parks have them?

(just became annual pass holder and will be doing little day trips often)

Magic Kingdom is the only remaining Park with a "full-scale" show-"Magic Kingdom Welcome"(currentlly at 8:40 AM(7:40 AM on AM EMH days)).

DAK does have a small "show" involving their Macaws.

Epcot and DHS just have a "Welcome Announcement"-Epcot's is cute with all the Countries' languages of World Showcase used.

Not sure about EMH, but I adore the DAK opening show -- it's not very long, but it's very, very cool. They have a whole flock of macaws fly in seemingly from nowhere on cue, then fly back out over the audience.

That is correct.

And I have to say that the MK Welcome Show gets me every time.

if MK has EMH then there will be one oping show at 7:40 ( or 20 minutes before the earliest park oping) the show last about 5 minutes and they let you in after the show. so you get in the park a few minutes early

MK Welcome Show is not to be missed. The others are nothing special. They used to do more elaborate ones at Epcot and DHS, but there were nowhere near the level of MK Welcome.

Epcot's also includes the fountains dancing but they are inside the park so only those inside prior to rope drop, (like going to an ADR or tour) have a chance to see it. By the time the opening crowd arrives in the area, the dance is over. We got to see it because we were there for a tour one day

For the record, the other parks open their turnstiles about the same amount of time before opening (15 min or so), even without a show.

If you are not staying onsite it is advisable to avoid the park with EMH on any given day anyway. Checkout a crowd calendar like Easy WDW for details on that and to help plan your trip around the dreaded EMH.
