Dear Run Disney,

If you are going to charge a huge entry fee, make the age group prizes half decent. Having the sponsors' names on a tiny wooden plaque with medal plate on top is poor at best. You do not even include the recipient's name and time/place. I have gotten better prizes for local races that cost $25 entry fee. I was terribly disappointed for my big sister who won her age group at the princess half this year. Since Disney normally does this first rate this was a huge surprise and not a good one. Sorry to complain....we did have a terrific time running the race and spending some time visiting the parks!

Dear Run Disney,

Why not offer something in addition to the Coast to Coast for the most loyal runners? We love attending the races and since other series, like Rock 'n Roll for example, have special medals for running a certain number of races, why can't you do the same thing? The Coast to Coast is special, but those of us that run nearly all or all Half Marathons and the Marathon should have some special rewards!

Otherwise, I really do love all the races, the customer service and the opportunity to have fun while accomplishing something I never thought I would. So, keep up the great work. We just need more medals! :cool1:

Dear Run Disney,

I would very much like to see my parents cross the finish line. Without paying. They already have to pay extra for me to come along. I don't want much, just simply maybe a gap in the bleachers I can spy through? Thanks ever so.

Run Disney,
Could you please move the Princess 1/2 to a non-peak season weekend, please? Resort prices are through the roof the weekend of the race. I'm already paying an arm and a leg to run the race, please don't take my other arm and leg...

On that note...

Dear runDisney,

If you're going to offer a C2C challenge, maybe it wouldn't hurt to have multiple half marathons most of us can choose from. I know you just added a race, but Tinker Bell is one of my least favorite characters of all time and rules me out of that race. Labor Day is the only chance I still have.

My family always comes as spectators and never has had to pay - we even had free parking. They were even close to the bleachers and had a better vantage point than most of those that paid for the spectator packages and they didn't even have to get up super early. :confused3

dear rundisney,

i didn't mean to get knocked up. believe me, i want to run WDW marathon 2012 but just won't be able to. shame on you for not letting me defer for a year but instead making me eat the entry fee. maybe if i hadn't trained for the 2011 princess i wouldn't have gotten in really good shape and i wouldn't have ovulated the week after the race. then i wouldn't have gotten knocked up by accident! so basically it's YOUR FAULT that i can't do the 2012 marathon!!

sorry for the active sex life!

smooches,
nancy

hey runDisney!

thanks for reading this letter! got your email today letting me know i can defer!

and that right there is why i love ya!

double smooches,
nancy

Yes, yes,yes

RunDisney you are taking my arm, my leg and a couple of first born children aswell to pay for this fantastic race. I do thank you for giving me yet another excuse on why I NEED to come to Disney each year. Just wish it was back in March or November where it would be cooler!

Dear Run Disney,

As you may know, I am not a fan of the women-centered races. If you must do them, however - just drop the pretense. Stop starting the relevant FB posts with "Hey ladies," docking me a corral, charging me the same (but with no age awards, and a shirt that doesn't fit*), and so forth, and then pretend that I am a welcome participant. I'm not, I get it, stop pretending otherwise, and it would be a lot better all around. (BTW - Moms Panel - same thing. A token dad or two on a group named "Moms Panel" should not be construed as being egalitarian or welcomming to anyone who doesn't fit the gender in the group name.)

* BTW - what's up with that? I've run in plenty of smaller races that manage to have women's and men's shirts - why can't you do that for all your races?

Oh, and for the PP who were making the expo posts - the snark in me is betting that, as more women run the half and full in the marathon weekend, eventually it will become another women-centric event, and it won't be an issue anymore. (Random question - when all of the Disney races are women-centered, then will I have had a valid point?)

Disney has just changed that the TinkerBell and Princess Half's now offer a men's shirt option! :thumbsup2

Yay? :confused3 MY first thought was "Gee, I hope that means they offer women's shirts at the other races." My second thought was "That is as may be, but there are still the whole corral and awards issues." It's nice, but it's just makes men at the Tink and Princess a bit less of second-class runners.

There are still, IMO, too many people who like to, one one hand, think of themselves as being egalitarian, and on the other, see no problem with the fact that women's racing has gone from exclusion to exclusivity.

I have a women's shirt from Wine & Dine last year. I had to pay $15 for it, but it's adorable.

This is exactly what I think. If they get rid of the corral punishment and add awards for both genders I'd be fine with the women-focused theme and tone of the races. I've said all along it is the discrimination (and even worse that it would never be attempted the other way around in 2011) that was the problem not the theme.

Yes, but for some odd reason, the actual race shirt itself has been a men's shirt. (Again, not sure why - I run at least a couple races per year that are only 10-20% of the Disney field, but they manage to get both men's and women's shirts as options for the race shirt.)

I agree. I recently contacted Active to update my 2012 registration to a shirt size of small, since I revisited my medium from this year and it is just. too. big. It's frustrating that I'll be spending hundreds of dollars and getting three shirts that will be at best, ill-fitting.

Dear Rundisney,

It will be my first 5K (Halloween). Why is it not a timed/chip race?

Just curious....and maybe I really dont want to know my time.
