My niece is 19, a sophomore in college. I TOTALLY forgot to get her a Christmas gift, and her birthday is the day after Christmas, so I have to do that too!!! (I can't do a "combined" gift, she hates that, and it does suck having your bday the day after xmas)

Give me your best ideas! Things that I could email, or have delivered?!

WOW, I love this --- it's an APP! I can send gift cards to her iPhone. She doesn't even use email anymore, so this is perfect! (I was going to send it to her mom's email acct)

Edible Arrangements can be delivered. You could even get a birthday themed one so theres a real distinction between the two.
Redbox sells ecards with codes, iTunes & Amazon do e-giftcards too.

I love the idea of sending a gift card for Christmas and an Edible Arrangement for her birthday. You mentioned how important it is to her to not receive combined gifts so I feel like two totally separate gifts would be nice. Two gift cards would really seem like an afterthought to me (no offense) since this late they will have to be delivered electronically and not mailed.

My sister sends me an Edible Arrangement for my birthday every year and I love them! This year she sent me one from their "Cupcake Collection" and it was adorable...the pineapple was cut into cupcake shapes, dipped in chocolate, then the tops were rolled in sprinkles. It had all sorts of different fruits of course including chocolate covere strawberries. Yummy! There are almost always coupons available.

My mom is 60 something and her birthday is the day after Christmas. She has told me my whole life that she wants two different gifts for the two different celebrations.. I think this caused her a lot of trauma growing up..

My SIL is the same way. She is over 40. I don't think you ever get over that.


My hair salon/spa has ecertificates. Maybe something like that.

P.S. Make sure you wrap the BDday gift in birthday wrap, not Christmas! I made that mistake once. (I know OP is looking for eGifts. But I was just giving a general warning.)

As one with a December birthday please never assume that a person will be OK with a joint gift (unless its something really fab like a car or a trip around the world). Unless I say that a gift is joint (because I realize its value) I 'expect' gifts for my birthday & Christmas to be separate. They are 2 separate occasions.
Sorry but it really annoys me when people combine gifts because a kid (who didn't even choose when to be born) is born close to Christmas but they'd never tell a kid who was born in June 'Heres your birthday & Christmas gift'.

I think you've already made your decision OP, but I think a gift certificate to chegg might not be a bad idea if she orders her books from them. Amazon is awesome (like many people have stated) for textbooks as well, so it's really a win win.

And I have a daughter who's birthday is right after Christmas, she's turning 8 this year, but last year she said "I cannot believe Grandma sent me a birthday card and signed it Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas." They pick it up young!

And, as a December birthday girl, I will agree with all the previous posters that it is nice to have both Christmas and my birthday (or vice versa, since my b-day is a week before) acknowledged separately. I have a very good friend whose birthday is the 24th, and we used to see each other on her birthday every year. I would always make sure to give her birthday present first, and make double sure there was nothing Christmas-y about it. It's nothing about getting bent out of shape, it's just considerate. They are two separate occasions.
