Ok, so I had never had a bad experience at Mama Melrose's until yesterday. We ate lunch at MM and I ordered the chicken parmagiana. I had this dish there for dinner last December and it was really better than I thought it was going to be. I ordered it again, but this time, I had to cop a Pete phrase and say "Ooooo! I threw up in my mouth!" It wasn't good and that's just being nice!
First, I want to comment on my son's lunch. Normally, the adult dining menus have provided too much food for him to eat. Since we're using TiW, I have had no problems with him ordering from the child's menu even though he's 11. He had ordered the child's cheese pizza there before and had never been able to finish but about 1/4 of it. It was what I would call a size similar to an individual pan pizza. Yesterday, my son ordered the child's pizza and we all expected the pizzas he used to receive. I don't know how anybody could serve what he received with a straight face. It was like an overgrown Ritz cracker with a hint of sauce and cheese on it. I'm not kidding! It was the most pitiful, pathetic thing I'd ever seen. He finished it all without any problems. I was just shocked at what a huge difference there was between what we'd previously ordered and what came yesterday. I also have a feeling that all of the child's menu pizzas are this way at the park restaurants, so beware!
Now back to my lunch. Previously the chicken had been made with a tomato sauce. It was pretty decent. I never cared for the pasta they used, but it was passable. I find that most of the pasta in restaurants like this has been cooked to a flaccid death. I like a little au dente texture to my pasta, but also a good quality pasta is necessary to start. Anyhow, the pasta was cooked to death and was just not good quality at all. However, the worst part of this entree for me was the fact that there was no tomato sauce used in the dish. It was tomato paste. It was as if they just opened a can of tomato paste and scooped out a big spoonful and slapped that on the chicken. It was horrible. It had the exact consistency and taste of tomato paste. Also, the chicken was totally bland. Anybody with any sense knows that chicken needs to be salted/seasoned before cooked or fried. This chicken was bereft of any flavor. The portion was small for the $16.95 they charged for it and it was, to date, the worst meal of our vacation.
