Only doing Island of Adventure...

We are planning on taking a day out of our Disney vacation to do one day at Universal. Based on the site, it looks like I should do IOA. I was at Universal Studios back in 1999 but know much as changed. Will I be able to see any of the Harry Potter attractions with only doing Island of Adventure?

You will only be able to see Hogsmeade if you are only doing IOA...Hogsmeade includes : Hogwarts Castle and the ride Forbidden Journey, The Flight of the Hippogrif kiddie coaster, the Dragon Challenge big coaster, shops and Ollivanders wands and the Frog choir/Triwizard pep rally shows.You will not be able to ride the Hogwarts express ( you need a park to park ticket to do that) and you will miss Diagon Alley over in the Studios which contains the gringotts bank attracction

I've never seen the newer section of US, but the HP stuff in ioa is great! If I had to pick one park, that would be the one.

Just one day at US or IOA is missing out in what Florida theme parks have to offer IMO

Personally speaking I think MK is the best park in the world, but US and IOA are considerably better than DS and EP - and probably AK too!

You'll be missing a lot. You'll miss the Hogwarts Express as well as Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley and the Gringotts ride.

Almost the entire park has changed. Off the top of my head first like mentioned above Hogwarts Express, Diagon Alley and Gringotts. On top of that, Men in Black, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers, Shrek 4d, the Simpson Ride, Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket.

I would get a park to park ticket and do Hogsmeade in IOA and then ride the Hogwarts Express to Diagon Alley in Universal Studios. You will be glad you did.

Don't forget to have lunch at the Three broomsticks in Hogsmeade and then maybe dinner at the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley.

We only had one day four years ago. It was supposed to be a Disney only trip. But it was so hard to stay away from US/IOA! I saved up credit card points and had managed to get one day tickets. At that time, there were not HP things in US. We easily filled our day at IOA and had a great time. If you just do IOA, you will miss out on some amazing things in US. BUT - if you can't find a way to do a second day or park-to-park, you'll still have a blast! You'll just need for find an excuse to come back sooner then.
